So, it's not really a question about games you SHOULD not (morally) play. It's more like the kind of game you might like, but you're not sure you'll be able to get into

Not sure if it's so clear written like this, so i'll give an example.

For me, this game would be Rimwolrd. Everyone played it, everyone loved it And srtill it seems so rich and so compex, so i didn't dare try it . And i never did (but i still feel tempted)

Your Rimworkd reference helps. For me it would be Monster Hunter or Disgaeia. Time sinks that seem to be pretty neat. And since I've tried Cookie Clicker for the first time yesterday, I am definitely right to stay at a reasonable distance from these games.

oh gods do not do Disgaea series. you can easily do their main storylines in a few hours. but new game+ end game secret whatever ending bonus endings? that'll be alllll the hours. wild how they make their games let you have characters over lvl 9999

thought, oh its 'tactics' like games'! yeah it was enjoyable. then the inevitable painstakingly slow grind to level up hella high levels.

This one is really excellent, but i think i just scratched its surface. It's definitely different from other rpgs we may like, sometimes in a good way, sometimes not.

Pretty much any horror game. I love the genre in itself. I love hanging out when a friend plays it, I love horror movies, books..

But games - I am too much of a chicken to move past the tutorial :D I would have loved to play dead space, resident evil, even amnesia. But I can handle only the tame ones - Alan Wake (first part), Metro Exodus and similar.

So I am pretty much losing out on some brilliant gameplays and stories just because I cant get into horror games. And watching youtubers play is like watching porn instead of actually doing it. The fun aspect is almost non existent there. Used to do gaming parties where we gifted some new horror game to a friend and then hung out when he was playing it. Then you can be at least part of the fun and the game wont stop when you close your eyes from fear (and don't you compare it to my initial example :D)

I second that. Love the genre, hate the jump scare.
Ironically I'm kind of genre-savvy, known most of the trick in those games. But when the scary moment comes, it get me most of the time.
Golden example: Dead Space (2008). I'm still stuck at the bridge in chapter 4. Too chicken to push forward.

For me it's gotta be the Yakuza series, i've played and enjoyed other games in the same genre as the series, but knowing the amount of time i'll have to sink into one game - I can never bring myself to do it (especially given the size of my backlog O_O)

I've got basically all of them in my library (Have the first 6 games in the series) so it's very possible that I could play it in the future, but for the time being I can't bring myself to start it knowing the commitment I'll have to put in to finish the game.

Oh man, what a subject. Me and my dad recently managed to gather enough for a psvr2 after years of being fans of the technology. I was super hyped to play horror games since it felt like the proper way of playing them that way. I played Resident Evil Village and i felt my heart numb afterwards, something i also felt after a recent surgery i had, so i don't feel comfortable enough playing them due to health concerns even though i would really, really like to. Unfortunately i'll have to hold off from playing the rest of RE8 and Madison Vr, for now at least.

I think it happens if my heart rate ramps up significantly. It doesn't happen with flat screen horror games, but it does with VR horror and going to the gym. I find it hard to play long games since I am afraid I need a break after a bit and then never really get back into it and leave in unfinished and the longer you wait the harder it gets to get back into it.

Also have games that I think I may enjoy but am afraid I would suck to much to get through it, like for example Ori and the blind forest, played it, got stuck somewhere, tried 30+ times and gave up and now the game is just collecting dust being forever unfinished. (and no, I don't remember where I got stuck, I just know I had to jump and there were tries and I kept getting hit and had to retry)

Almost forgot a category, games that are first-person and look fun, since I can feel very sick from first-person games, I find it hard to even give a game a chance if I may get sick from it!

Something similar to FC was, Assassin's creed 2 on ps3 and odyssey on xbox, I loved them and they're great console games, but to play them on PC i just get lazy, and AC 2 had such wack controls that I did not feel like adjusting them that night and havent touched it again. You shouldn't think like you're missing out. If a game doesn't resonance with you, just move on to the next one. I have a lot of overwhelmingly positive games marked as ignored, either I tried them or just not interested in them. Life is too short to play every game that seems interesting. :)

You're probably right, and it's clearly better to move on without any regrets. But I'm always a bit envious when i see people reviewing games like this is a masterpiece, and not understanding why! So yeah, it's probably as you say, fear of missing out.

I mean it is a masterpiece, but again you don't have to play every masterpiece out there. Same thing with the books, shows, etc. Every people has different interests in the end. I won't play Hades for example, everyone else seem to like it. However I didn't like the previous games of this developer. Knowing that it is a masterpiece doesn't make me want to play it.

Closest I can think of would probably be Genshin Impact, I guess.
It looks cute and it (presumably) has descent gameplay... and I fully expect those to be completely undermined by the fact that it's a loolbox-infected gatcha game. Games like that are designed with their gambling mechanics first, anything else second. I know that the cute aesthetic and (presumably good) gameplay are just there to attract as many people as possible to get the gambling addicts between them to sink their lives into it. Even if I have a strict "no money spend on free games" policy, I know those mechanics would be fighting me on every step of the way.
Screw games like that and screw the mobile games market. <.<

+100
For many reasons I never played F2P and never wanted. When I saw ad banner first time, graphics and singleplayer feature are bribed me, I had a humble wish to try, to leave my "gaming comfort zone". But then I saw announcing info, including monetization type, and... my opinion about this "game" has turned 180 degrees, I just hated it.

Not so long ago Capcom was re-released their gacha-Megaman as pure singleplayer project without lootboxes or smth like that. Also, I heard that Nier Reincarnation (which is an Automata sequel) will be closed down at the end of april, and fans asking to re-release it because of the plot.
So, if Capcom starting such a good move and Square Enix will continue, then we will have a possibility to get this "anime casino" as normal game too. And, of course, i'll give it a chance in a far future. 40-50% discount will be fine for me. 🤡

As for the GI "game" in it's current form - never. Just... no. :(

Yeah, I run into this a lot, too. I have tons of games in my backlog that I really want to play (Elden Ring, Kingdom Come, Star Traders: Frontiers, the entire Trails of Cold Steel series, etc, etc). I'm sure I'll love these if I actually play them, but I end up feeling paralyzed when it comes to starting a bigger game. It isn't about not having the time to play, because I often end up sinking a bunch of hours into games I've already played, like Beat Hazard, Vampire Survivors, or Wildermyth, instead of starting something new. Or I'll pick a few really short games to clear out of my backlog, just so I feel like I'm making progress (even though I may not actually enjoy them as much). I really don't quite know what stops me from starting some of these games.

There were two games or well series if you want. The first one was The Dark Pictures Anthology which I'm not ashamed to admit I put aside because I'm not a big fan of horror games, but in the end I got persuaded to try and that led to me finishing Man of Medan 5 times and House of ashes twice so far.
The second one is the Yakuza series because of the sheer amount of time needed to complete those games.

I completely forgot to reply to this :)
Not going to spoil the story of these two games(The Dark Pictures Anthology I mean), but rather than your traditional horror with constant jump scares, these two, well more MOM, build the horror factor through the story, sounds and environment rather than scaring you by having a monster appear in front of you screaming .
I obviously don't know you enough to say if you'd love the series or not, but if you own any of these games, and as bonus have friends who own the games too or will like to watch you play, give it a try, who knows , maybe you'll enjoy the Psychological horror genre :D

Honestly, there is no "correct" way to play a lot of the Paradox games. What honestly got me to try them (Stellaris, CK 2&3) was learning that I could rename most things under my control. A lot of my incentive to keep playing was seeing the map and character windows fill up with the ridiculous names I gave them.

You can certainly play these games seriously, trying to "win" or whatever, but I personally find them more fun if you lean into role-playing your current ruler, or just let things go off the rails a bit. Here's an article that inspired me to try CK3 - it and the rest of the series by the same author really show off how well the game takes to you ignoring all of the serious stuff and playing like a lunatic:
