So I farm my cards, but I usually sell them immediately for some sweet steam cred.
My question is: Does it worth it to buy cards and level up to get more booster packs? If yes, what about level up bots? If not, why do people do it?

Does it worth it to buy cards

If you have the money and want to level up, why not?

to get more booster packs

Yes and no. Yes, because thats a free booster pack. No, because its just 1 booster pack each week.

If yes, what about level up bots

What about level bots? Level bots are just trader who trade some trading cards. 1:1 or 1:2 from another set.

No, because its just 1 booster pack each week.

What?
Everytime someone creates a boosterpack for game A, all people that are booster drop elegiable for game A throw in their lottery ticket. The winner gets a boosterpack.

There is no limitation for once per week or per game or anything else.
If you're (unimaginable) lucky you could drop ALL boosterpacks that are generated forever.

With every 10 Level you get 1/5 additional ticket (With lvl 1 1 ticket, lvl 50 2, 100 3 and so on).

Level bots are just trader who trade some trading cards. 1:1 or 1:2 from another set.

No, he's talking about Level-Up Bots, which offer something around 20 card-sets for one csgo key.

Create a boosterpack? Is that a thing?

a) When you craft a set a booster pack is created (just not for you).
b) you can create booster packs from gems, which actually sometimes is the better option.

Yes.
But I think he means craft a set.

When I was level 70 I had 1 booster/week (every weekends) and since I've lvlup to 110, I have 1 booster every 4 days and it started 4 days after my level up.
So it doesn't look so random like a lottery for me. I've been a little bit surprise because that's what I thought too, that everytime someone craft a badge, someone else have a chance to drop a booster for the same game, but the drop timing is almost always the same (at least for me).

for me it's periodical too... and it doesn't change on peeks like on sales when ppl craft like crazy...

Same for me, nothing changed the week before and during the sales. I got my booster like usual.

Edit: You're lvl 170, what is your dropping rate? Maybe we can find some relation between lvls and games owned/eligible.

I have not kept track recently.
But at least a month ago, I can 100% confirm, that a level 30 account got 3 or 4 packs in a week, while another (basically the same games owned) didn't got a single one.
I will pay attention to see if volvo changed something.

That's so weird.
Before the summer sale I was lvl 78, I crafted a lot of badges during the sales for the bonus cards drop and at the end of the sale I was lvl 108.
Finally few days later I lvl up to 110, I kept all the booster since. Now I have 18 boosters and the last days of the sales was 78 days ago (let's say I lvl up 3 days later). So 75/18=4.16 days, and that's exactly my drop rate. I didn't got more nor less than that yet.
It seems we have some very diffenrent result between all of us.
I'll keep track of my drop and write the time as soon as I see I dropped a booster. Maybe I rounded things and didn't pay attention and drop happened after 5 days or 3 and not always 4.

Edit:

28/09 2:02pm No Turning Back: The Pixel Art Action-Adventure Roguelike

I edited my previous comment with the drops I got since last time.
For about 1 month and half, my average drop is 4 days and 10 hours, a little fewer than that because sometimes I was sleeping when it dropped. I writted as soon as I was able to see it.
So it confirms what I said above.
I won't keep track from now and I will open them to prepare my badges for next month.
Winter (sales) is coming ๐Ÿ˜„

After our discussion I kept track myself.

For my main it seem as well to be pretty regular (~6 days). For my bots as well. But one time I had 3 on one account while only one on the others (all same level). But maybe I messed up looting them so I wanted to wait a little longer, but it hasn't happend again so far.

So, seems like steam indeed changed stuff without updating anything...

What I ask myself... Is now a lvl. 100 account with only one game, getting a boosterpack for that game every 4 days?
Or does the amount of games factor in somewhere?

PS: Volvo still shows the old info:

Booster packs are granted randomly to eligible users as more badges are crafted by members of the community. Make sure you log in to Steam each week to maintain eligibility.

It involves the amount of game eligible imo.
I have almost 1500 games eligible, and you?

3118 ;->

But only Level 73.

But the new method is very stupid and it's unclear how it's calculated. The old one was way better.

Ok so maybe it is only the level, when I was level 78 (with about 800 games eligible iirc) I had 1 booster per week, like you.

Higher levels will never make booster pack drops return the investment. Having tons of games does.

That's right, being lvl 500 if you have 10 games eligible for drops won't be very useful, but lvl 100 with 2000 games eligible will be so much better.

From what I hear it's worth getting to level 10 as soon as possible, but anything more than that is a waste. Also it is typically not worth spending money or saving cards to get there since it's pretty easy for most people just by uploading screenshots and so on. If I remember correctly you get a slight increase in chance of a booster pack for every ten levels so... really generally not worth farming levels for that reason.

People do it to show off their levels and unlock profile showcases to increase Steam cred. It's never been and will never be worth the investment due to market equilibrium. If it'd ever approach anything near profitable, the people that care about the rewards would naturally be willing to pay more, negating the gains. Actually, it looks like that because of the number of card-eligible games flooding the market, most cards are dropping in value in general and booster packs too.

Additionally to this comment

Well if you already have a lot of games (and therefore a lot of booster pack drops possible) increasing your level might be worth it. (Even if you do not need more friends, showcases, etc.)

Just buy cards cheap (either by farming free games with multiple accounts, or by buying boosterpacks for 0.05 (for 5 card games).
Level-Up bots are a bit more expensive, but still somewhat cheap (at least cheaper than buying in the market directly).

And then just wait for the next sale to craft. Even with the "trash" games you make between 8 and 15 cent from the event card and the background/emote. Since you can buy sets easily for around 10cents you might even do some profit ;->

PS: Maybe up to 50 or so, above that you need way to many sets for improved booster rate.

If you just want to level up, selling expensive cards, buying CSGO keys and using a level up bot is probably the most cost-effective way.

I am Lvl 170 (+340% chance of getting a booster pack), eligible to get boosters from 2239 games.
I usually receive 1 booster pack every 7-10 days.
this is not an investment you want to make

edit - Those boosters are usually worth around 0.08 usd
A more ^viable^ way is to make multiple alts and fill them with free games (my alt with fewest games has over 33 free games in it)

Yes... and no.
Free games drop immediatelly in price when they are free... keep them for 6 months and you can sell it for reasonable price. Games such as catmouth island got cards up to 0.15 usd, and was given for free.
This is not true for games that go free often... but for others it is well worth the wait.

i think the period for profit out of cards is long gone. (i used to trade only cards (reason why i had so many cards for the bot).
sadly, i think the most profitable niche for trading is csgo....
games are not purchesable to inventory anymore... cards / emotes / bg are mostly worthless (or too much efford)... and game keys are slow to trade and it seems steam is going to make it harder to get.
ยด
But... good luck trading... if you find something that gives you some profit and you enjoy doing, it is a nice hobby (And the community oscillates from pure cancer to really nice ppl.. I still stick to a trading group even though i stopped doing it a long time ago)

Lets say 1 000 000 people have this game and can get a card booster drorp

You make level 100 - your drop rate will change from 1/1 000 000 to 3/1 000 000
You make level 200 - 5/1 000 000
300 - 7/1 000 000

Take into account that acutallyu from that 1 000 000 not all the people have 1/1 000 000 chance but more

Useless
