Those are cool albeit surprising news since W3 didn't seem like it needed enhancing. But ye can't complain about free improvement that aside from making it look better apparently makes it load faster as well.

Anyway, here's what I wanna know:

1) Will this be released as a separate version on steam?
2) If it does will it contain all DLC's or will you have to buy them separately?
3) If it does contain all DLC's like some remasters do, does that mean I can buy the base game now (currently on sale) and then just wait to get enhanced version with all DLC's packed in for free, effectively saving some money?

I expect something similar to the Bioshock remasters: Separate store page but all owners of the original version will get it for free. I am guessing expansion packs will be separate. I don't think, you will get the enhanced DLCs if you didn't purchase them.

I think most remasters of other games so far had all previous DLC's included in them as a complete package. Bioshock 2 Remaster has Minerva's DLC included in it so you basically get it for free even if you only owned base version of the original.

I know Skyrim remaster has all of them included as well, Dead Island too. I'm sure there were couple more remasters I've read about that had DLC's included in them and I don't think I remember any remasters which had DLC's available as separate purchases.

Hm... Yeah you are right, dlcs are usually included. It's just that considering Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone have enough content for a seprate game entirely, giving them for free just like that feels a bit odd.

The next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, as well as a free update for everyone who already owns the game on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Standalone implies it will be seperate. Forcing graphical updates to existing versions is always a poor choice as it potentially leaves people unable to run the game.

the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing, HDR and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.

I'm curious to see what the changes will be like!

Hopfully saves will transfer over. I'm about 100 hours into my first playthrough and I'm not interested in starting over.

EDIT: Looks like a free update to the original, nice!

That's great news. I've been delaying the buy for awhile, so maybe it's time to grab it.

And that's the way to do it.

Hopefully it'll work like an optional DLC in both GOG and Steam versions, since there are those whose machines wouldn't be able to run the game with a big graphical improvement.

Thats great, they should also do upgrades for W1 & W2 or even better remake them.

Huh. Witcher 1 is definitely clunky in parts, and looks pretty dated, but I don't remember encountering many bugs. I remember it being pretty smooth and stable, nothing like what I expect from Bethesda RPGs, for comparison.

I only played the beginning of Witcher 2, but didn't encounter any bugs.

Now Bethesda RPGs are buggy - playing Fallout 3 I had to save before and after every level transition because the game loved to crash to desktop, even with the fan made patch.

They already have enhanced editions don't they? At this point Witcher 1 should be remade rather than remastered, probably.

They already did the upgrades - they came out with Witcher Enhanced Edition and Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition, both as free upgrades, and both greatly improving over the base games.

At this point, they'd need to do complete remakes.

Well, that game still look nice, so nevermind, but still little sad about that. Atleast some new players will have better experience.
