I can't stack steam gems. Any solutions?

I am starting to wait for a number of things to become useable. Even some boosters I make are unsellable.

You trade it with someone and get them to trade it back. That's the only way I know at the moment

I tried that before with one of my stacks, but it didn't merge with the other when we traded it back. Ugh. I'll try that again in a bit I guess. Thanks. ._.
