I have a hard time understanding how the region restriction option in steamgifts works.
Despite the many similar questions from others about the topic that have been answered in the past, I find myself confused in this matter.
Mainly since there seem to be 3 possible explanations.

  1. It shows the countries where the game isn't allowed or is unavailable - makes sense
  2. It shows the countries where the game is available - I doubt it, since then almost every giveaway should have sheer endless lists of countries
  3. The region restriction is only used when a game is limited to certain countries, naming the ones where you can activate it.

AFAIK, it shows countries the key can be activated in. You are right about long list, that's why SG provided us with 'presets' which you can select from, when creating a giveaway.

The thing about it is - if there is any region restriction on the key, it's not to restrict certain countries from activating it, it's to allow certain countries to activate it.

It's pretty simple, it is explained right on the page: "Select the countries where your gift or key can be activated to limit your giveaway to the appropriate users".

Thanks for the replies. So the countries stated are the ones where you can activate it.
Therefore if a game can't be activated in a certain country, I'd have to activate all presets of the list, then manually enter the one that's excluded and make sure it's unchecked, right?

You can click on select all, then search for the ones you want to remove and uncheck those.

It's so daunting and confusing to me, makes me never want to use Steam to send gifts on SteamGifts. First I need to figure out for certain which regions have a >10% higher price on Steam that I can't gift to, which isn't the fault of SG at all...but where I live most of the time the price is >10% in Euro so in the past my solution has been to select the Europe - Steam preset and click every single country in the list to invert them
