I was sent the following video today from a fellow SG member, with the request to open a thread about this topic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ickMs49NLMs

In short, the video is about the fact that for some accounts, specific games have been disappearing from their launcher and they are also missing from the payment history, even if they were claimed in the past when they were free as a temporary promotion. Among these are:

  • Subnautica
  • Slime Rancher
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Axiom Verge
  • Satisfactory seems to also be missing (purchased - it was not given for free as a promotion)

and maybe some other titles that were promoted on the store between Dec 2019 and Apr 2019.

Tim Sweeney justifies this issue by claiming that the cases investigated lead to accounts that belonged to the same customer and associated with different email addresses.
Some of the accounts that have missing games are showcased in the video linked above.
According to SidAlpha, it is possible that the games are removed from the launcher because of the missing entries from the payment history corresponding to those games.

It is recommended to check if your account is affected by looking at your purchase history. If you are affected, then you need to open a support ticket to Epic. Unfortunately, there are no purchase receipts for these free games, therefore you can't prove that you claimed them in the past.

I already knew about the issue with payment history of free games for a month at the least, but since the game page of those that disappeared have Install button instead of Buy, I guess it's just a glitch or so

When i read all the comments i can only say facepalm

A lot forget that other shops had and have issues with their sites, app or launcher.
Not really a big thing and it looks as they restore(d) all (or nearly all?) innocent victims the missing games.
And they do something against people that try to hoard the free games with many accounts (and for sure sell the accounts later).

Sure is that error crap and sure it should give a prove for the customer but it hits nearly only free given games so the impact should not sooooo big as some people make it It's a fly not a elephant.

There's a little thing called "learning." It's what mentally-competent people do to avoid unnecessarily making an ass of themselves. Launching an online storefront without features (ex: shopping cart, user reviews, etc) that have been standard since as far back as the 90s is the exact opposite of learning.

I don't say that they make all good or something like that but if a other shop had a problem with their shop not so many would "rage".
That is the difference that i see.

And i really don't understand why so many act so strange.

I think they started without reviews and such stuff to start earlier and that they don't need a big team to control all the stuff.
I don't like it but i only buy the free games from them, till now, so i can live with it :o)

the "rage" comes from the fact they constantly keep on fucking up
If it was mostly improvement and good decisions - people wouldnt get worked up about one or two mistakes.
But up to this point what they do is constantly go downhill with users.

And what do you mean small team ? They have a budget to move mountains but they decide to start humbly ? Its quit obvious they just threw it together for the sake of having it.

I thought I saw a long time ago that not everything was in my payment history and thought their site was just bad and didnt show everything. But checked now again and I had every free game so dont know if I didnt pay that much attention and missed the show more button or if it was fixed for me.

Yes, they reduced the shown entries of your history to the latest 10 purchases or so, and that was really a bad and confusing decision.
The games were still in my library tho.
Now after the massive backlash they are back to showing all your purchases.

Haha, looks like they've started emailing receipts now, even for the free games.
Just got my first receipt for the freebie (Limbo) today.

I'm really surprised to see this. You've been extremely vocal about not liking Epic and wanting anything to do with them. I definitely didn't expect to see a comment from you about getting a game from the EGS let alone actually having an EGS account.

Incorrect. I've been very adamant in pointing out their shortcomings, while others have been devoutly (and sometimes blindly) touting them as "competition for Steam" (and blatantly ignoring any shortcomings), while EGS lacks the most basic customer-friendly features (for example -. emailed receipts) and at the same time trying to get as many users on their platform as possible. If you've followed anything I said, you'd remember that I said they won't get a penny from me (and they haven't) until they get their shit together (both EGS and Tim Sweeney).

Edit: For the record, I had an Epic account many years before the store was ever conceived, to play UT competitively.

That sucks. Hopefully all that were affected and lost games get their games back.

I hope people who got affected by this get their games back.

For me? After so many blunders from Epic with their storefront, I've decided to boycott them altogether, including their game engine.

(I will still play games developed in UE4, btw)

I can't believe Epic is so inept, thinking that having a bare-bones storefront is enough to take on Steam, GOG, and many others. The only ones who are using their storefront are Fortnite players, critics, and suckers who can't wait for 6 months or a year for their games exclusivity deal to expire.

Yes, 88% revenue split is generous, but what do you prefer more? Pissing off your player base just to get slightly more money or fight the good fight and release a game on your usual storefronts just to keep your trust and reputation?

Also Steam as an example offers the developers quite a few Extras If You published there so the biggest cut is reasonable to an extend. Still would be nice to See an incease though. For me personally I will Always stay with Steam especially nie that they allow pretty much anything in their Platform including nudity :)

That's correct.

On Steam, your game or tool can have workshop support, lots of things users can do like user-created guides and you can post updates to keep players notified about what you're developing.

GOG slowly evolves, but its main selling point is DRM-free policy. So if people don't want to mess with DRM sh*t or can't use the internet, you can just simply download the game installer beforehand and that's it. You can play your game anywhere on any PC.

So, as a game dev, you can get profit from both places at the same time.

Epic, however, steals new games and places them temporarily on their bare-bones storefront with the only benefit being 88% cut for devs. If Valve later decides to increase the revenue split for devs to match Epic's, then Epic would be in trouble. The only saving grace for Epic is to bribe devs huge sums of money just to put their games on their storefront, in which they're doing just now with recent crowdfunded titles.

Sometimes I wonder if the EGS is actually a secret valve project to "make steam look great again" XD

But I do hope that, for all of you who legitimately had faith in EGS time and time again, things will straighten out/up.

Ive noticed some weeks ago i'm missing Super Meat Boy and Subnautica from my "purchase history".
Thought it was i who did wrong in claming at first, but now i consider being hit by that bug. None other missing since What Remains of Edith Finch.

Yep, was never convinced to buy from epic, and never will with such sheanigans.
