I run metro on hight. With no AA and advanced PhysX on, under DX10 on core 2 quad Q6600, GTX 260 and 2GB of ram. It looks awesome and with good 40FPS average.

I can play Metro 2033 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 ( 256 VRAM ) on low settings and the dx9 render perfectly fine.
But my processor is also an amd dual core 2.9 GHz processor, although its not an quad core.

I can play TES IV: Oblivion on the highest graphics, plus a mod to make the graphics better, plus so many mods it told me I couldn't hold any more .esp files (one of those was open cities), but when I play Minecraft with the lowest possible settings, plus optifine to make them even lower, it's so laggy it's almost unbearable...

I have some stuff turned down to run it at 60, 40 isnt my cup of tea. But it improved after I updated to my nvidia beta drivers. I'd share but I have it uninstaled, I dont keep pirated shit on me that long. Just wanted to test out performance on my laptop since its supposed to be a new engine.
It may have some issues with you but in no way is it the #1 game for benchmarking.

Vertical tearing / frame drops. "40 fps" doesn't say how the game's actually running necessarily. There can still be issues which make it feel choppy. Also, the eye is an ANALOGUE device, not a digital one. People saying "meh human eye goes up to 30 fps!!" forget this. 1) Individual people have different upper thresholds for this value 2) any extra frames over this threshold aren't discarded information as the eye is, again, an analogue device. It just makes motion look smoother. Why else would the new Hobbit movie be released in 48 fps? -_-
I, for example, can tell the difference between 60 and 80 fps. Tested this with a friend on Source engine games - he'd set the max fps and I'd guess what it was set to. Right on the money, every time. Only got about 20 - 30% mistakes on guessing between 70 and 90 fps. And yes, his monitor was a 120 hz one.

tf2 has a great engine, most of the valve games have that too so no... but planetside is really laggy and ive had bad graphics in it even on ultra high im not sure why

Where the hell can I find one of these emulators... I would love to be able to play console exclusives on my PC... I know it would be illegal but I own all of the Halos (minus Halo 2 and Wars but Wars isn't Halo) and it sucks to be on the road and not have an Xbox in the car...

I'd say I have a pretty decent gaming rig, and there are times when playing Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2012 that I have frame drops. This is on highest graphic settings, and in some cases where you're driving fast and a lot of things are happening around me.
My computer can handle Battlefield 3 on maxed out settings.
Haven't tried Metro 2033, nor Crysis 3, though.

yeah quad core, i only have a dual core yet i can run almost anything (even hitman absolution or far cry 3) without problem... but gta 4 still runs slow as hell for me even in in the lowest settings and low resolution T.T
