Hello there! EDITED LINK - I own a physical copy of this game (store and exact item I bought) but I don't think I have ever activated it. Is there a way to find out how comes that Civ5 is in my steam library and what is it's key*EDITED LINK? I'm a bit confused.

le: gonna download it and see what happens! 'Night / 'morning everyone! :)
l-le: problem solved

Civ V uses steamworks, so if you have a physical copy you had to activate it on Steam in order to install and play it.

Well I'm holding the box in my hands right now and it seems it was never opened.

U sure you didn't activated your key? As far as I know there's no way to know which key was used for it D:
You could also try activating your key, if it works you'll get "You already have this game" if it doesn't it should say "It's a duplicated key" might work as you already got the game, not 100% sure if you'll get the duped key message if it doesn't work but it's worth the try :P

PD. SOME games tell you which is your key but that's when you need it for another kind of in-game registration like games for windows

Ty for the answer, but my physical copy is "goty" while the one I have in my steam library seems like a standard edition - click -> I don't think this will help.

From that image it looks like you only have the DLC... does it run if you try to play it?

Well I have to download it first, but if I visit the store page it says "You already own Sid Meier's Civilization® V <PLAY_NOW_BUTON>".

You played 11 hours of it, and you're surprised that it's in your library?

Perhaps a bonus with another game you activated? It has been a pre order bonus before IIRC.

Did you just get the free copy of Civ from voting in the golden joystick awards like many others have?

I didn't pick any because I had both of them + the game was activated on 7 sept 2013.

So which did you do: Bought a game you already won in a giveaway, or entered a giveaway for a game you already owned?

I bought a game which I already won and I thought I played on the free weekend. :))

Glad you figured out the mystery. Now you have an unopened box you can save until it becomes a collectors item.
