Yeah a lot of Steam giveaway sites have closed down in the last 1-2 years: Gameminer, SteamCompanion, Galagiveaways (was my favorite), Steamportal, Steamchampions, Gameaways, and Playblink -- and these are only 7 sites I've counted ... surely there were more.

I used to make giveaways on all of these sites. Sadly I can't do that anymore.

Why did they all close down within the same time period? Surely it must be linked to the region-locking of Steam keys and gifts. Any more reasons?

SteamCompanion went very well (tool area still exists) but servers had broken harddrives and owner had only some older backups wich would just have messed everything up... best solution seemed to close that section...

I've never heard about any of these sites except Galagiveaways, and that one kind of still lives (IndieGala has a giveaway section). They were probably not well known and had a small user base, I suppose...

playblink was a cool idea and i'm not just saying that cause i'm a blinkdog but you would play dumb flash games to win steam games. sadly that was also its flaw as i feel the hardcore players pushed everyone else out and the games were not very interesting.

I used a site called TremorGames in order to get things like cards and small games by doing offers. I'm sad that it shut down cuz it's how I finished most of the badges I DO have.

They went to Epicgifts, like the cool and hip kids want to go nowadays.

Yeah, gameminer and playblink... I had a big level there. As I know, they closed because they didnt have money to pay for servers.

Nice to hear. Speaking of firsts, I was probably the first person there to make a giveaway for my region (Saudi Arabia). The giveaway had less than 5 entries, not surprisingly.

I didn't even know of the existence of these sites until a forum thread lead me here years ago. And even then, I thought this was the only site of its kind.

Never heard of those sites? Did I miss something?

If you buy stuff from Indiegala you should consider Indiegala giveaways *

  • just citing a site still alive!

I didn't get it if you want to participate or make giveaways?

Thanks for the link. I used to make tons of giveaways on those aforementioned, defunct sites. But now I gotta make 'em on SG.
