Was checking the game requirements of FFXV on Steam and noticed the note at the end "720p 30" fps and "1080p 30 fps". What are they thinking? They had a high framerate mode on consoles. Is there something preventing them from going full 60/unlocked on PC? Maybe some contract that binds them into making a not so good PC port so that consoles get more sales? I can imagine both Microsoft and Sony paying premium to keep the sales of their systems up.

I must say I am kind of disappointed. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Got the time to run the benchmark. I can agree with all of you saying it is not locked to 30fps. I guess the requirements are those to reach at least 30 fps at the given resolution.

Do you mind playing at 30 fps your PC games?

Not really.
I'm not touching anything running below 60.
Depends on the game.

I prefer having a framecap higher than 30 when I play on PC, but I'm used to this ( console gamer here ) so it's not really game breaking for me.

Console gamer (until the PS3 days at least) here as well. I can't play any racing sim that's running under 60. But I finished Witcher 3 at 30. I wish my PC could run it at 60. At least it would run it at high and 1440p! :)

Quick search on the forum shows that the game can run at higher framerates, but presumably these specs are what they expect to run at 30FPS; the "additional notes" include resolutions as well, and I doubt there are going to be only these two. If anything, you should be worried about optimization rather than about FPS lock.

I hope you are right, but it is a bit confusing when on the FFXII Steam page they clearly define what we should expect from the specs ("Additional Notes: Expected Framerate: 60 FPS. Screen resolution: 1920x1080. Depending on the monitor and PC graphics card environment and setup used, this title can expand its display resolution to 4K. However, please be aware that 4K resolutions are not officially supported.) Could do the same on this.

I really hope that benchmark isn't indicative of the ports quality control, it's really buggy (and I hear its even worse for AMD users).

Can´t say I care too much... on PC there shouldn´t be a 30FPS-lock (masterrace and all..), but for me FPS >30 is just "nice to have" and doesn´t really matter, unless its a high-skill-game.

For those who care I hope there will be a simple mod.

Every game should copy The Witcher 3 on this matter: Locks at 30, at 60 and completely unlocked framerates options.

I know what's better if stability and 30fps are playable if they are steady, however I think 30FPS it's a shitty standard and we should be looking to surpass metal gear the 60fps, not to maintain it. My GPU it's old and outdated nowadays, but still can manage to get more than 30fps in PUBG...

We still try to set 60 fps as a standard... Will take long to surpass it.. :/

There is little need for any fixed FPS at all. Especially as engines get more complicated, it very quickly starts to make sense to decouple rendering from the rest of the processing. An engine locked at 60 FPS is just as silly as one locked at 30 FPS, and neither one makes my 144 Hz monitor happy.

Of course, if you're targeting for known hardware limits (consoles *cough*) aiming for a constant FPS makes a little more sense, or is at least not as objectionable. But there's no need for an "FPS standard", nor is getting only 30 FPS necessarily bad if you're not dealing with a twitch game. Personally, though, the smoother the better, even outside twitch gaming.

I'll go to the Witcher 3 example: My PC can go from 45 to 65 fps so an option to lock it at 30 was welcome. That's the only case I would justify the lock. And always as an option! :)

https://www.game-debate.com/news/24475/final-fantasy-xv-pc-benchmark-frame-rates-for-every-graphics-card

Well, at the very least, I think it's safe to say you shouldn't expect a great frame rate when going 4K/High. :P
Meanwhile, looks like the Recommended GPU of GTX 1060 would put you at 46fps when playing at 1080p/High.

Yeah- and 1080p isn't something you'd want to reduce just for better framerate, not when you're already over 60fps. Of course, assuming FFXV has the usual in-menu graphic customization options, you may be able to find some settings you're willing to tweak down in order to improve performance further.

I usually find a handful of things in most every game which can be toggled down or off without impacting graphics noticeably (or, alternatively, actually improving graphics. ie, disabling motion blur). Of course, considering the kind of quality we're talking about here, even if you do tone down noticeable elements, you'll still be left with something rather pretty.

It takes an gtx 1080 to take it to 75 fps :( !
Mine is 2k 60 Hz :D!

TW3 on 1080p ultra with hair works and 8msaa with an gtx 1080 has from 80 to 100+ FPS so this is a little sad !

EDIT :
Wait what :
Average FPS (4K/High)
Titan V 49
Titan Xp 48
GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 44
Titan X (Pascal) 44
GeForce GTX 1080 34
GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 31
Radeon Vega Frontier Edition 29
Radeon RX Vega 29
GeForce GTX Titan X 29
GeForce GTX 980 Ti 28
GeForce GTX 1070 28
GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 20
GeForce GTX 980 18

DO I see this right 4k high on gtx 1080 is 34 FPS AVG ... FFS ... I am out :))) !

As I said before : TW3 on 1080p ultra with hair works and 8msaa with an gtx 1080 has from 80 to 100+ FPS so this is a little sad !
And the problem is that on all resolution and quality ratios I find it too demanding ... I hope it is not poorly optimized but it kind of shouts of it :( !

I don't mind 30 FPS on some games if the res is high !

I really doubt it, TW3 was the 2015 Crysis 3 at 4k !

I doubt any console orientated game will be the new standard on graphics !
Even now TW3 with mods , 4k texture on 4k is better than any console game at graphics !

The only gems that are on the PS are the exlusivities, bad in a way ... no native 4k ... because even pro can't handle that and also no mods :D!

here an exampe : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH1KGACAnC8
Watch it on 4k !
Or GTA V :

Yes but look at this :

Average FPS (4K/Low)
Titan V 85
GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 73
Titan Xp 72
Titan X (Pascal) 70
Radeon Vega Frontier Edition 58
GeForce GTX 1080 57

This is at low 4k , The video that I showed you fro TW3 with mods had with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti ASUS ROG Strix OC at 4k almost the same as vanilla !

This also shows that TW3 still cracks the PC's with mods can't sustain 60 :D !

they added a bunch of extra options (such as hair works etc.) that causes the low fps

The game does include NVIDIAGameWorks (for things like hair effects). Though, from what I could google, it looks like you may be able to disable it in the game's graphic settings- so perhaps that can be a trade off for getting it to run on 4x.

I'm fine with 1080P/30 for a game like this, I just hope it doesn't have any glaring technical issues with many of Squares other PC ports (FF Type-0 / FF XIII-2 / Nier Automata).

That's just the requirements to meet those performance targets, which are set based on the console performance targets which run at 30 FPS.

The game itself can run at 60 FPS and scale up to 4K.

FF 15 is bad so the wombo combo will be wonderfully bad ...
