Like the title says. GOG will remove some games from their store for german people within this week.
At the moment they are still available for purchase. They won't remove it out of your library, so now is the time to buy those titles, if you are interrested in playing them.

This was necessary because of our laws, but at least they are telling us, before they remove it and within the summer sale so that we can get the games cheap right now ;)

They could with the games that were restricted before. Plenty of germans have traded for those games.

Germany has one of the weirdest laws towards gaming ive seen in my life tbh .

I honestly dont understand how ppl are accepting such bullshit .

We are working on a change for the better :)
The problem is that games are not accepted as "art", so many issues that are accepted in movies, theater, music, books,.. are grounds for censorship (by federal institutions and self censorship by publishers) in games :/

No, they are considered "art"
however, that doesn't help them with outdated laws

Really, by the BPjM?

From the BPjM probably not, but the USK is way more liberal with this
and since games marked as 18+ by the USK, can't be indexed that easy (see i.e. Mortal Kombat), this is a positive trend in the last few years

The mentioned games for GOG are 10~20 years old, waiting to get automatically deleted from the list after 25 years

I can understand some… but games like UT, STAR WARS, or Redneck Rampage, a parody of the Build engine shooters? o.0 Or, heck, Far Cry 1, which is barely anything more than a pretty tech demo of the CryEngine with like 20 minutes of actual story?

Some of these I can understand (not saying agree with, just saying that I understand the reasoning), some make less sense. Blake stone, for an example... Is it because it was considered too violent when it was new, and nobody bothered doing anything about it afterwards?

At their time, these games were "too violent" and got added to the "Index list" OR they just didn't wanted to let the game reviewed by the USK (bundled with a small fee, they give out a age restriction classification similiar to PEGI)
Games on the Index remain here for 25 years, or the publisher decide to pay a fee to get a second review of their game

For the german folks:
Nettes Interview mit dem Geschäftsleiter der USK der ein wenig über das Review-Verfahren in Deutschland spricht und warum Spiele auf dem Index landen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG2KqvkY-UE
(sorry no subtitles :s)

Just like when Steam did this, I'm really wtf'ing.. I mean sure, there are some games I can see their point, don't agree with mind you, but can see where they are coming from. Then others.. Red Faction? Star Wars Dark Forces (I, not II), I mean really? What next? Super Mario World?

We can assume it's outside pressure, probably same.

Playing Red Faction makes you serial killer, so there's that. Source
