I've heard a lot of praise of the hyperX Cloud 2, and compared to it, I heard both negatives and absolute positives of the 3. How it lacks the bass 2 had, but gwtting a lot of praise of directional sound and how detailed the sound can be when multiple sources overlap... the thing is, most of the praise I've heard about 3 was focused on competitive shooters, and how great it is at hearing the steps - but I don't play conpetitive shooters. I guess it still sounds nice with other, first person games too, and likely it's good for a strategy or CRPG too, but I'm a bit lost.

Any of you have experience with these headphones, or could suggest an all-around good quality one in a similarish price-range?
Thanks in advance!

I can't speak for the newer ones but I own a pair of cloud alphas and they're great. This coming from someone who runs a DAC/amp with his sennheisers. Super comfy and IMO sound better than beyerdynamics dt 770 pro

I can't say anything directly about Cloud 2/3 but I use HyperX headphones for around 10 years, first "HYPERX Cloud Core KHX", then "HyperX Cloud Core Wireless" and currently "HyperX Cloud III Wireless". I was so happy with each that I keep buying them :) I tried Steelseries 9 (meh) and 2 models from Logitech. They feel more premium, battery last longer and they perform better in games, but mic is much worse and music quality... disgusting.

Only used the Cloud 2 and in my opinion the sound is ok, 7.1 is not good for gaming or music. The newest version of cloud 2 has crap plastics , it broke under 90 days on the plastic part with 2 screws , i was lucky i had the old version that worked for almost 7 years to use for spare plastic parts. The older version had a carrying bag, headphone and microphone splitter, and the usb sound card had an illuminated logo. They cut cost and still use crap plastic , found many reviews with the same problem so it is not bad luck. In Battlefield 1 there is an issue where the sound can get bugged , high pitch sound but you can fix it with an ALT TAB :) The vinyl ear pads don`t last long , hyper x was nice and got an extra pair for free 3 years after the warranty period.

I have owned several generations of Cloud 2 and since the last year I have a pair of Cloud 3. I play a lot of shooters and there I notice the difference, they are both good headphones, the lack of bass in the 3 is not so pronounced as to be a problem for me. I prefer them because of the much better microphone and higher quality construction materials. The only real flaw they have for me is the software (great for setting the headphones as you like best) but that sometimes does not detect them and I am forced to unplug and plug them back in

I only have a pair of the newer wired Cloud 2. I have had no issue, either from the driver or the plastic cups. I am very satisfied with them. Have run them for hours on end on both Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows.

They're a little more expensive but the PC38X is a great gaming headset I'd recommend over these. As far as bass goes, less bass is "better" for online games but I prefer a warm sound for offline games, it's a lot more immersive in my opinion. If you're not playing online though I'd say just get a good normal headphone, especially if you already have a good headphone you use to listen to music. A good sounding IEM would work great as well, I usually use IEMs since they don't get my ears hot, can run off your controller and are more comfortable for me since I'm sensitive to headphone clamping force.

I have a wired Cloud 3 for PC and a wireless Cloud 3 for Playstation, and I am a fan. I guess the bass isn't amazing but I don't really do anything where I notice. Directional sound is great, complexity of sound is great, and they are very comfortable, which is nice when you wear them for several hours per day. (The wireless also keeps its battery charge for a long time).

Thank you very much for the comments and shared experiences, I'll get through them in detail soon. I feel I'm a bit over-worrying or over-preparing, but I better safe than sorry I think ^^

I never had a really branded headphone, my latest one was a Panasonic wireless one, that literally snapped in half after a year, or year and a half (it had horrible lag when it came to videos and games... I'm not sure if my bluetooth adapter was at fault in my PC, or the headset itself - was good for mostly music, but snapped as I apparently have such a big head that the plastic curvature of the overhead part was under a lot of stress D:)
