So, I was browsing the local used ads and saw that someone was selling a left-handed Razer mouse for $55. I laughed at the ad, telling my brother that it'll never sell since left-handed mice are not very common... but it made me think, is it really that rare? How rare is it?

I'm a lefty myself, but since I've started using computers I've always been using a right-handed mouse and I'm used to it. I probably couldn't get used to left-handed even if I tried, it's just weird. It would cause lots of problems with my left hand as well since I'm used to the WASD controls.

Generally, which kind of mouse do you use? Left-handed or right-handed?

You're thinking too much
Just use things that you're comfortable with
Or if you want get used to left-handed mice, use it everyday for a month.. You'll get better.. Probably
Go, become ambidexterous! xD

I'm left-handed, my right hand is useless for most things, but I use a right-handed mouse. I didn't even know that left-handed mice existed until a few years ago, and when I tried one, it was so uncomfortable, just because I'm so used to having the mouse on my right hand.

There are a handful of console games I've played that have "southpaw" control scheme options (swaps the control sticks and L/R buttons/triggers) and I haven't been able to get used to those either...I didn't even manage to get past the intro to Red Dead Redemption before I had to switch back to normal controls. I was going in circles because my hands couldn't grasp the concept of moving the horse with my right thumb and moving the camera with my left thumb.

Heh, I'm the same way when it comes to my right hand. Generally useless, unless with a mouse. Then I'm much more comfortable than if I try using it with my left hand.

Kensington orbit trackball on the left side with the left hand.
I started a los of years algo and there were no left handed computer peripherals so always used normal ones with the left hand ( even im able to use any with Both hands i'm more comfortable with my left hand).
I prefer trackballs over mouses. But there are only 2-3 models usable with any hand (most from kensingtong and logitech). The rest are only right handed ones.
The real "país in the ass" for me was to find a good, confortable joystick to play games several years ago.
And i really hate developers who do:

  • no reconfigurable keyboard controls.
  • presume all mices have 3 buttons and have no way to assign the middle mouse button action to another control (satellite reign ones are you hearing?)
  • have no lefty controllers config opción/ not allow to reconfigure controllers.

Im ambidextrous and I have an ambidex mouse. If Im staying at my parents house, I have to use it lefty because their desk layout is awful. At home, I usually use it righty. Except with certain games. I played Legue of Legends lefty because it was more comfortable.

I use a regular mouse but I switch left click and right click and use the mouse with my left hand. Here's something really different lol.. Instead of WASD I use OKL; .. basically I mirror everything on the keyboard. So say in a game sprint is left shift I make it right shift, so on and so forth..although theres no tab. I use my scroll enemies lock or list shuffle often times with [ ]

I'm using an ambidextrous mouse but, much as you do, being left-handed I prefer to use it on my right hand.

the only "fitting" gaming mouse was the razer naga, but razer produces only junk (and crap software), so I switched to logitech

That keyboard is sick. drool

I just have a Logitech G710+. No complaint though, it's pretty nice and I got it for $40, used but in perfectly functional state. Their hardware last long as fuck, so it's almost always a good investment, compared to some... other... brands.

A right-handed Gigabyte M6800 right now. Cheap as hell, but comfortable to hold with a large hand, even with the side buttons. Middle button is a bit cheap (had to repair it once already), but for this price, I couldn't find a better one; not even my previously-favoured Logitech RX250 was this comfortable.

Beauty (and comfort) in simplicity, as I always say.
Okay fine, no I don't. :(

But seriously though, more simple/small mouse designs are nice. I which such a mouse existed, but with a shitload of programmable buttons. My main reason for getting a "gaming" mouse was because I play TERA and I had lots of skills I needed to bind to easier to reach keys, but it took a while to get used to its size. To be fair, it's a cheap "random brand" mouse from China, so...

I'm right handed but none of the left-handers I know use left handed mice, though a couple have tried them
seems to be that most lefties are so used to using the right handed setup that it'd be more trouble than it would be worth to get used to a new configuration. as a result left handed mice don't sell nearly as well as, for instance, left handed tin openers or scissors do compared to their right handed counterparts. since they don't sell so well they get little marketing and many gamers are likely ignorant of their existence until they've already gotten so used to using right handed and so... it goes on

Ambi but with Lefthanded mouse, always used mouse on the left side.
Don't like right side except maybe with some laptop at work sometimes...
As far as i know there only 2 or 3 real lefthanded mouse... a razer deathadder lefthand (the one i use) & some others less interesting.
My problem is mostly i don't really found the keyboard i want as i use Numeric pad with a shitty compact keyboard to have access To more keys

Right hand. Though if I'm being lazy and using a toughpad then either hand is the same.

I'm not left-handed but I have a family member who is, he uses a neutral mouse with his left hand, but does not reverse the buttons. But playing games with KB+M is a pain in the ass because many games don't let you reassign the keys and the default placement is for right hand mouse and left hand WASD. Even games that let you use arrows as WASD will have other keys that assume right hand mouse left hand KB.

I helped him to research left-handed keyboards, there are some like http://www.fentek-ind.com/modular.htm but usually maintain the standard QWERTY layout, so other than the numeric keypad and arrows being on the left, the rest of the keys are still geared toward the traditional layout.

I'm left handed but use a right handed mouse in my right hand. Gravitated towards using my right hand with the mouse straight away, didn't even consider using the left. I think it's put a cap on my skill level though, and I'd probably have more accuracy if I'd started with my left but it's too late to change now.

Exactly my case, I'm sure I'd be better at FPSs if it weren't for the fact that I use my right hand for aiming. :P

I know it sounds like an excuse, but it's true! We're hindered by our inability to use our dominant hand for aiming. :D

I'd much prefer to use a left handed, but since it's not standard and I am fine with the mouse I have, right handed. And it might be a pain during games with WASD, but I actually used to prefer using arrow keys so it wouldn't be a huge issue with me. I'm (usually) right handed, but my left hand feels built for using technology.

Well, I'm right-handed, so I always use right-handed mice (well, at least mice on the right side of the keyboard). I tried it with left a couple of times, but it was so incredibly hard...

Well, I'm right-handed ( unless it comes to eating ) and use a Razer DeathAdder.
To be perfectly honest the only reason I have ever used it with my left hand is porn.

Edit
And for that purpose I have to say it's totally sufficient
