So, through which do you talk with you gaming companions?
Reserved.
Am I part of the cool kids group now? :D
I had forgotten to add:
Teamspeak, Ventrilo and Steam's Voice Chat, Dolby Axon and Gamevox! Good call, guys (:
Removed Xfire (because it's dead).

Omg, beautiful music.
And depressing.
And so true :(

Ah thanks! I tried doing it html style but SG wasn't having it. :/

So I'm not the only one that owns vinyls with pride still! And that listens to them too!
I'm glad I met your beautifully depressing and lonely song expectations :D

Wooooooo!
I wish there are a Vinyl Gifts community, like where we can give and exchange our beloved LP's.
My prized possession? Television's Marquee Moon LP signed by Tom Verlaine <333333333
If you don't know the album, do yourself a favor, check it, it's one of my favs. 77 Proto-punk-rock, though more progressive than anything else in the genre at the time, up there with Gang of Four's Entertainment, 77 was a good year!

Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation! I'll be sure to check it out. Meanwhile, I'll leave you a recommendation of my own, how does that sound? (;
I dunno if you'll like it though, but It'd be great if you told me what you thought :3

Oh I forgot to add this one! I'm such a dum dum. Thanks for letting me know :D

Yeah probably a big mistake consider there is a TS3 server open to the SG community and that a karaoke contest was held on it.
Comment has been collapsed.
We humans are all susceptible to mistakes, big ones or small ones. (:
Comment has been collapsed.
Mistakes? Never! HERESY I say!
thought honestly you'd be more curious about how the hell we managed a karaoke contest if I am honest lol
Comment has been collapsed.
;-;
Not curious, I bet you found your own workaround with it. Plus, I don't see why it would be as hard as you make it seem, even more so when we consider that you have indeed succeeded.

In-game voice chat for random crawling creatures for the win :D
But Skype always bails on me ):

I talk to them in the same room. I only like local multiplayer.

Makes sense! I didn't even consider this option.
Good call on pointing it out (:

and also i dont own a microphone, +1 this if you cry every time ;_;

Did you check the last poll option? (;
And don't worry, we can be friends (actually we already are on Steam, so!)!

So glad it works for some people haha
The stupid thing always gives me problem D:
Skype, do you think I'm ugly? ;-;

My group favours Mumble, which seem to give better sound quality and less lag than the other options, but it does have the downside of requiring someone to host a server. We've also tried Skype, but there was a noticeable (but not huge) lag and the sound quality was not as good.

I had no idea! Thanks for informing me about it :O

Exactly! Preach it, brother. I can't stand skype when I use it for gaming >:

I've forgotten to add this one too!
facepalm I'm such a loser sometimes.
I'll add it to the main post :D

Steam's voice chat usually.
I've never tested it... hm.... I'll add it to the main post too! :D

Oh. That's sad. Valve should aim for higher standards than that ):
Thanks for informing me, though.

Freiwilliger must have a bad PC, bad ISP, or just friends that messed the experience for him. Steam voice chat has never messed up on me. My friends and I all join and are able to talk to each other with no problems. Sure, it doesn't have a lot of features, but what do you expect?
Comment has been collapsed.
Steam voice chat has never messed up on me.
Taking into consideration both sides of the coin, I'll just have to test it out for myself (:
Thank you for sharing your good experiences! :D

I tried to get Ventrilo to work one time but I gave up.

Really? I've never used it myself. So sad you couldn't make it work, though.

It wasn't the end of the world. Actually I still suspect 'friends' were winding me up and pretending they couldn't hear me. I'll be monitoring your topic to see what other things people recommend!

HAHA those are the worse of the best kinds of friends.
I'll be monitoring your topic to see what other things people recommend!
Please do! This has also been created to inform others of possible alternatives (:

Vent or TS if we are playing something that requires that level of co-ordination but most of the time we don't really bother.

I do it more for the fun than the convenience ahaha :P

usually screaming, throwing popcorn and / or a controller @ them
High five, girl! :D They don't do what you want? Salty popcorn in the eye it is.
Thanks for sharing (:

Teamspeak is the best one.
You and so many others are recommending it! I believe you all :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Nowadays, I don't play as much as I used to, so I only play with selected friends once in a while... For that purpose, we've been using Skype. When I played WoW, I used both Ventrilo and TeamSpeak, as they supported a larger amount of people, depending on the time and what the guild/player had as server. I think I liked TS better between those 2, it had less problems.
I've also heard good things about Mumble, but haven't used it.

Exactly the same here, sadly. I don't have many hardcore gaming friends that'd like to go through the hassle of installing a new VoIP just to use once in whenever.
But thanks so so much for all the info. It really helps me consider what to use next.

There's been an Uprising of game voice chatting recently. So many options I hardly know which ones are really worth using and which ones I should just dump. So this thread has been born. I've selected a few voice chatting software that are made for gaming (or oftenly used for such), and I'd love it if you'd tell me which ones you use (if any)!
Also, if you'd like to leave a comment telling me why you use the one you do, it'd be much appreciated.
VoIP's in no particular order (from 1 to 13):
