I'm wondering if is needed to do something apart from joining the GA? I have 840 entered and 0 wins, however on other similar well known sites I have a ratio of 1 every 350 entered. Is there something required I'm missing? Like commenting ont he GA or something?

You just have to choose wisely which giveaways you want to win. If there are always 1500-2000 participants, your chances will be rather low...
