I wanted to answer both and stay out of the GAs, because I don't want to get in trouble with any of my 4-legged friends (1 dog and 2 cats here). But since I'd be happy to enter this Erwin's Timewarp giveaway, I'll stand with dogs. I'm an easy man after all :)

Dogs. They are loyal pets and there's a reason why they're called a man's best friend.
Cats are awesome if they don't have a selfish personality and actually want to snuggle every now and then, but that's too rare, so I'm definitely going with dogs.
