Hopefully the "old" Tribes community + new buyers are enough to keep the game active enough..because there are a lot of multiplayer games that are actually pretty good/decent but just die without a playerbase...

This is what I recommend, as there are still a lot of people who play Starsiege: Tribes. It may not be as popular as it was in the 90s~00s, but it's still popular.

A lot of people that are backers to Midair come from either Starsiege Tribes or Tribes 2. Lots of old clans and stuff still hang around there and Midair at the same time.

I've spent lots of time in Tribes: Ascend (more than Steam shows since I also played through Hi-Rez launcjer for a long time). I quit a little while after the OOtB update though. I couldn't bare the auto-weapons anymore.
Hopefully MidAir won't have this issue.

During the time when Hi-Rez abandoned Tribes Ascend for Smite, a lot of former Tribes players decided to make a spiritual successor to the classic days of Starsiege Tribes. This had a successful Kickstarter a few years ago and now the game has landed open-beta on Steam. If any of you were at PAX West this year, they had a booth showcasing the game.
Recently the devs have also decided to give away keys to any people that own the game, so I would like to give this key away here while also promoting a game that I've wanted for years, especially since there aren't any other modern Tribes-style games.
Currently the game is $30 or your regional equivalent and is on Steam Early Access. The game is slated to fully release in Q1 2018 where it will become F2P. It will be monetized by cosmetic skins and a progression pass which allows you to unlock weapons in the game permanently without having to unlock them yourself.
Pretty much all information can be found on the website at https://www.playmidair.com/. There's also a forum and a Discord channel where people often organize PUGs.
As an avid Tribes fan, I'm looking forward to seeing other people who casually played Tribes Ascend get back into the game.
