I find myself spending way too much money, more than I have / should spend on steam sales.

I'm so OCD I feel like I have to get everything once its in bundles or on low enough sale because one day I "might" want to play it.

Also steam achievements and trading cards add to the OCD factor.

How do you guys resist your gamers instinct collectors OCD?

How do you decide which games are in and which games are out? No matter the sale?

This is especially true due to the upcoming winter sale.

TL;DR - Spending too much money I don't have on games I don't play and gifts because they're on sale. How do I stop?

My reasoning is simple: More than $3? Too expensive! Less than $3? Obvious last-chance money grab for a game that's going in a $1 bundle the day the sale ends. With pessimism like this, you too can save a fortune!

Well keep no money in the bank during it. What games will you really play, configure how much they would cost and leave that much in it and take the rest out.

Of course you must configure in your bills and such. Plus having a bunch of cash makes you feel good.

Do something so steam wont allow you to fund your account :P But I think all the things you can do to cause that may also make them block access to the games you already have.

I highly doubt it is OCD, your condition sounds more like an addiction. Try to not look at sales/bundle sites and launch steam games from the start menu, make desktop icons for your games, or set your steam startup page to your library and don't go to the store page unless you want a specific game.

Well yeh it isn't "technicly" OCD. But more of an addiction

I was going to say the same thing =p

If you're spending too much on games, then you need to look at your money/budget and show yourself that spending on games is making your life worse. I.E. If I spend more money on games, I can't afford gas/rent/bills and thus I will be evicted/get bad credit/lose my job cause I can't get to work. Whatever it is...

Or just call and cancel your internet.

You need to set your steam start to your library and ignore steam sales, I ignore all sales unless it's a game that looks like I might enjoy. Sure I haven't played 90% of my steam games, but at least I have options.

PS: Not having money helps.

Well I've persuaded myself not to buy another game until I play all of my games.

Not sure if this will work on you though, I wasn't that obsessed, I've only have like 10 games to play.

Just set yourself a budget and stick to it. Heck you could even open a new bank account that is solely for gaming purchases, put a certain amount in each month or week and limit your spend that way.

Basically I do Price to interest ratio. Fallout Vegas for example. I wont buy that until it's 2.50. I want ALOT of games, but if I see a game discounted even lower then before i bought it and I'm highly upset, then I didn't want it enough. Like I bought Payday 2 on gamestop for 17 bucks, then I saw it for steam for $13, and I wasnt upset. If the game is low enough that I know I can buy it without any regrets then I WILL buy it. Using this methodology, I tend to pass up many games..... But I'm now about to hit the 100 game mark soon so it must not be working as much as I thought it was.... lol

I was like you, but i realized that i only played some of the games i bought on sales. Now i buy only games that im really in the mood to play it immediately. Otherwise i ignore it, there will be others sales in the near future with better discounts.

i haven't bought anything in the steam autumn sale, but i definitely buy a lot of bundles. i like supporting indie games (which put out the best games since they're more willing to take risks and try something new) and also the pay-what-you-want idea, so i buy almost all humble, royale, gala, and groupees bundles. i have tons of games i haven't played yet so it's fairly easy to resist good sales. also i figure if something's not on the top 5 of my wishlist and at least 75% off i shouldn't buy it, though i sure tried to get dishonored goty (#7 on my wishlist) when it was listed 92% off.

I just think of all the games I already have that I dont play and then dont bother. I could spend my money on better things, like drugs and alcohol.
