Rocksmith 2014 also uses Uplay as DRM, yet it's on steam and all DLC is bought on steam ;)
But if Uplay is mentioned as being required, I assume is the Uplay version.
Worst case you can contact support explaining this and asking if it's Uplay or steam.

All games that use uPlay are activated on your uPlay account, regardless of if you bought it on Steam or GMG or anywhere else. That includes AC4, because your AC4 is connected to a uPlay account that you input somewhere.
For example, on my account I have Far Cry 3 that I bought on the ubistore, and I also have Anno 2070 which I bought from the Steam store. I've got AC4 on it for my PS4, and I have Rayman Legends from GMG. All of them are on my account, and all were bought from differing places. Your AC4 on uPlay, regardless of if you bought a physical copy, digital copy, or some other new unknown way, will work with a season pass bought from anywhere. Assuming the key is working of course, and is for the same platform you bought the game for.
As for your question about Capsule client required, the thing about uPlay and 3rd party distribution that isn't Steam that I hate is that you can't just activate your key on their server and download the game. If you buy the game from elsewhere, you have to download it from that service before you can activate your key during installation. You can always re-download from uPlay at a later date if it isn't a Steam bought game, but first time installation kind of sucks.
Hope that helps answer your question

Thanks, that helped a lot!
I was only wondering, because I read somewhere, that the Uplay games you buy directly on steam have to be activated on your Uplay account, but DON'T show in your Uplay games list, because there are some sort of special version.

Hello there,
I bought a physical version of Assassins Creed 4, which I had to activate on Uplay.
I now want to get the season pass (also on Uplay).
GreenManGaming currently has the season pass off 30% with a voucher.
Does somebody know if I get a key to activate on my Uplay account?
I know in the description of the store page it says "Requires Uplay Client". However, this is the same for the steam store. If you buy Assassins Creed 4 on steam you also have to use a "lite" uplay client, but you cannot activate the games on your actual uplay account.
Is it the same for GreenManGaming? Especially since for the base game on GreenManGaming it says "Capsule Client required".
Also do you think the season pass will be off more than 30% before christmas?
Thanks!
