There's a website for that, and that website is not Steamgifts. :P

All I mean by that is, making a thread about something that'd come up within the first 3 google results is a bit weird. Or are you asking if Steam'll do anything for the period between the Lunar sale and Summer Sale (since Steam doesn't actually have a Spring Sale)?

In which case, probably not, since it's very near to the Summer Sale date already, nevermind that they've never done anything for this period before. I've previously compiled a list of past Steam sale dates and themes, you can browse it here.

Interesting. There's quite a few threads and articles out there guessing the Steam Spring sale should be today. I wonder why, if Steam has never done anything like it before.

They have done a Steam Spring Sale before. PC Gamer mentions it here.

Here's a really old one for 2013 when they did a Spring Indie Sale

My apologies, I forgot that one. I recall it being pretty forgetable (between only lasting 4 days and having basically nothing on sale, nevermind at a good discount), but I suppose that's not a valid reason to overlook it. Well, I also previously dismissed the 2013 rendition for similar reasons in my earlier post, so there's that. :P

The distinction between Valve's major sales and its frequent weekend sales [which on occasion last more than just a weekend] is in duration, quantity of items on sale, and the degree of Valve support (via event elements). Since that Spring Sale had event content but lacked duration and discounted items [wheras the earlier Spring Sale lacked event content and discounted items] it's a bit hard to place, but I think it'd lean towards being addable to the list. Not enough so that I'm inclined to do it but, of course, if Valve does repeat the Spring Cleaning event (to a broader scale), then it'd definitely count as the first iteration of it.

On the other hand, it was styled like an especially intensive free weekend (given that its primary focus was on free weekend plays of games during that time period), so there's that, as well. That is to say, it was an "event", rather than a "sale". Well, the Lunar Sale took a bit to get established as well, so if we do get a Spring event/sale this year, it'd be a pretty strong sign that Valve wants to make it a regular thing from now on (and will give us an idea of how they're planning to approach it).

Well, in any case, I clearly slipped up on that one. Thanks for the correction. :)
[I've added it as a footnote to my list, in the meantime. ^.^]

It's ok Sooth no big deal, we're all human. ..well in some cases there are bots but not us :)

But the rumor was it was suppose to launch today. I believe there was a leak somewhere that showed that .. I remember reading something about it but forgot where. Maybe they pushed it to tomorrow.. It was launched on the 24th last year so it wouldn't be surprising if it repeated. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I mean, it's the third instance of a Spring promotion. It wouldn't be the first time that Valve fans have gone too far in latching on to rumors of Valve's potential third release of something. :P

If it's Spring themed, it'd definitely be in April or May, unless Valve is tossing aside the usual month association. There's also the fact that the Summer Sale is so near. With that in mind, it's probably a sure no-go if it's not up by the end of the month but, kinda hard to predict more precisely than that without a trustworthy rumor.

Generally we rely on developers/publishers involved in the events for that kind of info, I believe, but perhaps it may be a bit harder to get a leak from when "only" hundreds of games are discounted, versus the thousands during major sales [according to the terms used within Valve's news announcements for the events].

I find it kind of weird that the Spring and Summer sales and the Autumn and Winter sales are normally only a month apart. I figured it would be better to have more space between those. The Spring Sale and Autumn Sale are a week or less while the Summer and Winter Sales are 2 weeks or so.

In 2018 the Spring Sale was May 24th to May 28th and the Summer Sale was June 21st to July 5th. The Autumn Sale was November 21st to November 27th and the Steam Winter Sale was from December 20th to January 3rd.

Steam definitely heavily favors the July-Summer and December-Winter sales, which does make for a smooth half-year point of focus. On the other hand, following the establishment of those core sales, they clustered the last few months of the year- October and November- for additional holiday sales.

The latest addition, the Lunar sale in February, used a much more reasonable 2 month gap, and also served to cater to Chinese gamers. April'd be a perfectly reasonable place to add in a Spring sale [mind you, Spring starts in March and ends in June, while May and April are considered the main months, so May is actually a rather late pick to go with], falling smoothly between the Lunar and Summer sales, and [other than the gap between Summer and Halloween] serving to solidify a steady spread of sale dates across the entire year.

With it running so close to the Summer Sale, you're not only risking low interest, you're risking upset consumers if discounts are better just a month later. It also lacks any connection to an established holiday [ie, Halloween, BlackFriday/Thanksgiving, Chinese New Year's, Christmas, and "Half-Christmas" AKA I'll-Buy-Anything-If-It-Gives-Me-An-Excuse-To-Stay-Out-Of-The-Blistering-Summer-Sun-Day], so it's not like they need to put it in May, either.

Sooth, you forgot to add Spring Cleaning Sale 2018 here , I think that this year it starts 24th of May either.

It was added to the bottom, actually.

It was a rather small-scale sale and it's only been a one-off thus far [it has no association with the previous, also low-scale Spring sale from 2013], so I don't feel comfortable adding it to the main list (which is dedicated just to the regular yearly sales) just yet.

Given how minor it was, there's not any real compelling reason to give it strong attention just yet (especially with the Summer Sale, one of the two biggest, coming so soon after it). Of course, if Valve does make it a regular thing and increase its scope, then I'll update the list accordingly.

In broader consideration, even if it does get larger in size and becomes a regular thing it, much like the Autumn sale, is likely to be overshadowed by the major sale which immediately follows it [as many gamers seem to prefer to wait until the larger sale to really commit to purchases]. Of course, if they retain the free weekend emphasis, it'll at least have a distinct presence that may make it stand out for that reason alone.

it's more directed at forum posts than you since steam never really tells us. the last few sales have been leaked by devs like a week or 2 before the sale so this isn't something you can easily google. you are also asking about a sale that seems to not happen every year so you have a legit question.

And I'm completely okay with any of the ones that provide clear context or intent. :P

Conversely, I'll consider all the rest spammy, and I'm okay with standing by that consideration. :P
I mean, don't get me wrong. If you make a thread labeled "Why is a bagel round?", add a funny poll, and provide some conversation hooks, I don't care how aimless it is, it can be considered a benefit to the forums [in moderation].

Rather, I'm just not sure using SG to directly replace Google is the best use of the forums. That said, my intent was, as I noted below, not to criticize the spammyness, but to stimulate a clarification to the subject matter. Maybe I didn't pursue that aim as clearly as I perhaps could have.

I was going to say, your point was completely lost there, before your edit.

My point was actually that Steamgifts is better served for discussion, which requires better context and detail than the OP presented, than it is for a question that is easily and reliably Google-able with the most minimal of effort. Utilizing SG like Quora is perfectly fine, especially in regards to gaming matters, but any constructive merits are lost when, instead of a clear topic or complex question, a simple and vague query is made [which would be more functionally sent elsewhere, instead].

My point was actually to stimulate the OP into expanding his context, and not to be a "fucking jerk", but I do acknowledge that my presentation could have presented as being interpretable to such a tone. My apologies for any unintended rudeness I may have offered.

In any case, even if I had intended negativity, my comment did nevertheless have plenty of constructive purpose, so I'm not sure why you're framing your reference to it such as to imply otherwise. "contribution" may be a better option, if your intent was to imply that I was providing less benefit than counter-benefit, though I'm still a bit unclear as to how that'd be the conclusion.

I was following Steam sales tentatively till I discovered Isthereanydeal from a Streamer then started using SteamGifts. There are really unique cases where games don't go on discounts on Steam Sales. Some has higher discounts during their game/published anniversary if they are publishing their own titles. Some does not have discount policy like Rimworld. The best Steam discounts are still in the Winter from what I've observe so if I want to purchase any individual title, I'll probably wait till Winter Sale.

What are your observations for your exceptions? I am interested to know if you do not mind. Warm Regards and Cheers, Cruse~

I'd like to see the sales prices for the 2018 Summer and Winter sales for comparison. Do you know of any sites that show the history from both these sales?

For me personally there's times where I've waited on buying something for both thinking maybe the next sale would be cheaper due to it being later and the game being out longer and that's not always the case. I play several games online daily so often times I only grab bundles unless I plan on playing the game/dlc right away then I'll pick it up on Steam(if I'm able to).

Nope, I do not know of any site that does history comparison. What I did was manually type it out on an Excel sheet. Its really tedious but I am really curious how Steam sale works so I kind of did it for 2017 and 2018 sales. After discovering ITAD I stopped, also that my older comp can't handle more tabs after the browser changes.

There's still prices and data in the History Tab on ITAD for each individual games but as a whole nope. I have not come across any. Nowadays, the sales no longer dictate how much discount it will be given or the age of the game. Some games are overpriced at launch so they dish out a 40% at the end of the year, hoping for more sales. Which happens in Winter sale from my observation.

Some games due to leaving EA or just publisher change for price increase which the % of discount remains the same but at a higher price. Wishlisting the games are still the best way to keep track of the games you are interested in. Then either you can keep those emails or note them down on a document. A little off-topic; As such like Paradox titles used to be affordable but they increased their price as their games are popular and never goes above 75% discount except for 1 or 2 titles. It is a bad move ihmo, considering their DLC policy. They used the money for Paradox Con but what that actually benefits? I do not know, at least not for me.

I do not think you'll be missing much if you purchase the games on Winter Sale discount. Just a selective of games does not have discount or had cheaper discounts due to above mentioned circumstances like Anniversary/new DLC/event that is close to winter sale and they decided to skip the Winter discount all together.

The best deals are still bundle deals, unless you are looking for newer games than retail site discounts may favor more like the Epic discount which My Time at Portia is at around 60% discount for me. It recently increased its price when they leave EA in Jan, discount still at 20%, was not bundled in the recent Team17 Digital Humble Bundle. Therefore, after currency conversion I am looking forward to getting My Time at Portia on Epic although I am still weary of its launcher. I do not see a 60% within 3yrs but that's just my speculation and even if it does, it has high replay value for me so its a go. Just waiting it out to see anymore interesting deal down the line. Perhaps the Steam Summer Sale but Epic sale probably wont last till then. :)

Yeah, it feels like support members should focus only on looking for rule breakers, and report them to "higher ops". So that moderators and / or super moderators can take care of them. As many actions (like delete giveaway or close discussions) are not available for you.

And then it feels like moderators should just prepare tickets for super mods, as for example we can't manage giveaway winners or giveaway feedback :D
