Try all the local food possible! That's my goal when I go over there :D

This was one of the problems I ran into tbh. Always thought about experiencing life there, but never had anything concrete in mind. Visiting as a tourist seems like the "basic" thing to do, but just visiting tourist locations seem kind of boring.

tokyo tower, roppongi, asakusa, skytree near asakusa, akihabara, ueno park, shinjuku, shibuya, Japanese sword museum near shibuya. Try to eat at local places, avoid fast food. Try ramen at many different ramen shops. Japanese travel the country trying different ramen because each area has it's own flair.

Roppongi is high end area, lots of celebs live there. i never noticed anything seedy. Not samurai museum. this one. http://www.touken.or.jp/english/
also Kabukicho in shinjuku is interesting at night. "red light district"
you can add me if you have any questions. also my akagumo group is about Japan, some members are Japanese.

apart from the obvious, try local food and see some nice culture... always think what would be impossible to get when im home, i seen enough people who go to japan and come with pokemon plushies or random copies of games they easily could get here...
my gf always talks about those weird love hotels they got there.. im too busy with ramen.

I'm definitely not there just for anime and stuff. Tokyo seems kind of crowded though, I'm regretting not planning part of the trip to other prefectures to see some of their idyllic culture. Yeah, my friend really gushes about the food there!

Haven't heard that much about Japan, but considering this is a gaming forum: arcades, gamer cafés are something would worth checking out. Also they have huge stores with a lot of various older consoles and games that you couldn't find in the west, so even if you don't want to get anything, it's a unique sight :)
And ofc local food, it's always a great stuff to try out - if you can do that, try to ask around what restaurant would worth trying out - asking random people instead of hotel staff can be a good way to avoid tourist traps (or to miss out good places... so be on point about the average price for stuff, it's not that hard with internet nowadays :)

Fair enough, it just seems like a popular enough destination that many people would have visited. My friend whom I'm travelling with did mention that they have some of the more rare games there, and for cheap. I live in South-East Asia though, so I don't really look for things in the west xD
Thanks for the tips!

I heard there are lots of restaurants nearby and they have the most fresh fish for sushi!

Been a long time since I was active here, and what better way to change that than with a few small giveaways?

On a separate note, I'll be leaving for Tokyo, Japan in a couple of days. While I do have a rough itinerary planned, It's a fairly foreign country to me, so I'm all ears for some recommendations for things to do/try while i'm there! If there are any SGifters who live in the country or have been to Tokyo anytime recently, I would love to hear what you think! (Feel free to add me!)
