Yet another VN bundle?
Thanks for sharing! These have been on my list for a while and this seems like a great deal. Likely an instant T2 for me.
I've only played If My Heart Had Wings (probably their flagship title) before but it's a great VN that will always rank among my all-time overall favourites, and I'll gladly recommend it both to veterans and newcomers alike willing to give the genre a try. Coincidentally I also made a Steam review of it so consider it if you're on the fence.
Back then (three years ago) I got that game on sale but still paid roughly the same for it as this entire bundle costs right now, and even then it was more than worth it, so...

I think I played through it without applying any patch. Kinda regret it since I heard you miss out on a lot of actual content by doing so, but it's so long it's unfortunately unlikely that I'll ever make time to play through it again - though I hope to be able to someday.

There's a 15% off Voucher for that bundle:

I'd be interested in some of those titles but the high price of the bundle combined with the intention of buying a few other Fanatical bundles currently running, and reading about dubious adaptation by MoeNovel, makes it a skip.
Waiting for times when we'll see those recycled at cheaper prices (Visual Novel Pick & Mix anyone?)

Huh, MoeNovel... on one hand, this is objectively a great price (at least T1 is) for games with good ratings (except for the LoveKami trilogy, which is just considered "so-so"), with an estimated total playtime of at least ~100-200 hours.
On the other hand, between butchered translations and excessive censorship with no available patches (they probably spend more on censorship than translation), they don't exactly have the best track record as a localization company.
It tells you a lot when $60+ games are repackaged and sold as $10-15 Steam Editions for 12 years old French girls (and horny teens who couldn't tell a masterpiece apart from shovelware, and think anime = porn).
CROSS†CHANNEL in particular seems to have been hit the hardest by this policy.

I guess they must be one of the few publishers who are still willing to bundle -and thus, indirectly devalue- their visual novels.
And if you look deeper, it's mostly controversial ones who are always on the lookout for some easy penny to fund their next anti-consumer practices "efforts": Sekai Project (I don't think I need to expand on this), Dharker Studio (mostly copypasted stuff, plus frequent bait-and-switch tactics), and Fruitbat Factory (yes, they're controversial now, just look at NoraNeko to see why).

But, we got CLANNAD just recently too? IF which are sort-off VN also bundle regularly. MangaGamer has had a few IndieGala/HB bundles (though their Kindled Spirits on the roof was a laugh). That about sums up the entire VN translation section. The only one missing is SakuraGames, and yeah... they are literally Google Translate jobs I think, not exactly a standard to look up to.
Which elusive VN publishers shy bundles and are thus "not controversial"? Kind of interested.

IF, I wouldn't consider any of their games "visual novels", aside from their otomes, and Date a Live.
And they haven't really bundled any of their games in the stricter sense of the term (aside from Neptunia R;B1), they just regularly give them deep discounts, even slashed some base prices, and every once in a while they do Pick & Mix and Star Deals.
Anyway, it was mostly a figure of speech (as in, most of them are penny pinchers), and in MangaGamer's case, they were mostly their lowest selling titles (the few NSFW bundles from Groupees), cheaper/older games that are likely not selling that well anymore, and not-really-cheap ones (CLANNAD, Kindred Spirits on the Roof) in equally not-really-cheap tiers.
However, not even MangaGamer is a stranger to controversial decisions: the Steam version of eden* just recently got an official patch 3 years after release (while the Mangagamer version still doesn't have an upgrade option), Princess Evangile and Cho Dengeki Stryker are still -and likely always will be- without one, with the only place to get the complete editions being their own store, while Shuffle isn't even available on MangaGamer's store anymore (so, you can only get the butchered console port on Steam, and no more).
It's just recently that they took a "free patches for everybody" stance.
And for some slightly older games, you still have to look for fan-made ones (sorry, can't even double-check which ones with the Cut Content curator, since Steam shits itself if you look more than 10 game pages in 5 minutes).
SakuraGame (now rebranded as "Paradise Project") is the worst of the bunch: they trick small devs into signing contracts that probably aren't even that profitable to them, pass games through some weird translator (Google's would do a lot better), release them as-is, with no quality check whatsoever, for pennies, then discount them as much and as often as possible (and even do "promotions" to market them). They're, however, smart enough to understand that bundles would be detrimental to their current marketing strategy.

https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/f5J13/humble-bundle-humble-neptunia-bundle-coupon-added-cyberdimension-nep-4-goddesses-online ? (But yeah I did get VII before that from a discount)
Fair enough. I don't see DLC for Eden* though, did they update the base game? On no patches; think the same is true still for Saku Saku (Sekai) and Denpastore, even if they do offer paid patches for, say, Nekopara, KARAKARA and Neko-nin (even though it's the best one :( ). Though I can't really fault them too much when at release time that's forced upon Steam and rarely do companies update a game 3 years after release. It would be very nice, but I don't count on it, and them doing it is mostly an act of good faith rather than a requirement. Hopefully the new systems in place stop this from happening from now on though.
How would you even bundle something that's regularly 50 cent on the Steam store cause they just dump them cheap? I suppose it sells though, and that's kind of said when hoping for proper translations as some of these titles do deserve that :(
Also seems you missed my thinly veiled attempt to get some good VN publisher names, even though if they don't bundle I probably wont get around to them, since I get all my VN's from bundles since I really cannot affort to pay them all fullprice (well, that's true for most games, still...) Most are grossly overpriced sadly enough, which is why I like IF so much now. Good stuff and reasonably priced? Yes please.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, right, I kinda ignored that Neptunia bundle... since I owned pretty much everything anyway.
It was their first bundle since... forever, and older stuff, except for the new DLCs, and VII/VIIR in the highest tier.
I do share your opinion about IF, good stuff (well, "decent", but I'm not picky), great prices (one of the few publishers with proper regional pricing), but they should care just a bit more about bugfixing.
Oh, by the way, they just brought back the Pick-and-Mix bundle... talk about perfect timing.
The DLC for eden*... it seems it's not linked on the base game's store page, but you can find it everywhere else (it's appID 945720).
By the way, it's not your typical restoration (of cut content) patch, it's content developed AFTER the game, and accessed from the menu (and, I think, a single scene in the main game, which has a novelty censor anyway).
The deal with SakuraGame is even worse, they basically cater to "horny teens who wouldn't tell a masterpiece apart from shovelware, and buy it because it's cheap, thinking that anime = porn" (and collectors) - which is even sadder when most of them are actually good games, if only we could actually understand them.
As for good publishers, don't worry, I didn't miss your hint, it's just easier to list bad players than good ones, so it took me a while.
Let's see...

Okay seems I actually got that eden* patch already wishlisted :) Thanks.
Also thanks for the many suggestions. Even though Steam doesn't really offer a good system to search devs that I know off (and developer pages are the worst now, I much prefer the old table), generally searching these gets their games (Degica excluded) so that offers some games to look into.
Comment has been collapsed.
Huh, no, that's eden* PLUS + Mosaic - the complete version.
What I mean is that there's no separate upgrade option for owners of the base version, they must rebuy the whole package (one thing that right now Steam is doing better, oddly enough).

Seems they added this bundle to Steam too... good if you got unused Steam wallet, but you wont get keys for dupes;

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/12150/MoeNovel_Bundle__Tier_2/
Seems prices (on Fanatical) dropped from OP too?
Buy tier 1: 7 Products
€6.35
Buy tier 2: 9 Products
€12.84 (€10.91 with 15% off. Bought it for that)
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not that you don't get extras for dupes, they're "must purchase together" bundles, so you cannot buy it if you own anything.
And how did you get 15% off the Steam bundle, if the coupon is for the Fanatical bundle?
Factoring in the coupon, prices are slightly better at Fanatical: for EU, that's €5.52 / €12.62 vs €6.35 / €12.84 on Steam.
Comment has been collapsed.
I did get 15% off Fanatical.
Also, you're right, ugh, I overlooked that. There's ways around that by manually deleting keys of the games you own (since the result is cheaper than buying seperate) but so annoying. But it's an interesting option for people who got Steam credit to use which cannot be done on Fanatical (even if it doesn't allow the discount, for many Steambucks are just "fake money").
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I'd totally do that if I had enough Steam Wallet funds (it's indeed "fake money" if you don't use gift cards)... and if I had not won If My Heart Had Wings here.
There also used to be a slightly better workaround, at least until a few (?) years ago: you had to add a "must purchase together" bundle to the cart while logged off, then log in to purchase it, and you'd receive gift copies of dupes.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, the option is there. Fanatical might seem superior but if you got a bunch of Steamfunds and not much real money it's nice to have. And likely your method costs more than 15% of the funds.
Ontop of the Fanatical price cut. Feel kind of bad for people who bought it before now.
Comment has been collapsed.
I looked at the Steam packages back then and they weren't any kind of cheap at that moment. Their price dropping after I already bought the bundle from Fanatical can't be taken into account. Steam would have cost much more than Fanatical with 30% loss but 15% discount for me and I wouldn't have any extra keys for here.
Comment has been collapsed.
Huh... the loss is actually quite high when factoring in all costs (unless you find a friend willing to give up on their cut): fixed 15% (or up to 33% with cheap cards) when dealing with the community market, plus extra fees when you actually cash out.
Those ~€13 for the tier 2 bundle would probably cost you €18 Steambucks or so.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's about 30% cut taking everything into accord. Could be much less with more patience and investigating, that's just the fast and simple way.
If I buy T2 on Steam now it would cost me 12.84€ and I would only get 1 game + 1 DLC. For the 18€ on Fanatical I would get those + whole of T1 to give away. That looked bit too expensive so I only got T1 for 7.90€ for 7 games vs 6.35€ for only 4 games. So in reality I paid 1.55€ extra for 3 games worth 6.15 CV and saved a lot per game.
Edit: also noticing the cheaper T2 price it would only be 15.60€ on Fanatical.

Bah! Great bundle. Just a shame I bought most of what I want from it earlier this year. (facepalm)
It's almost worth rebuying T1 just to get Healing Harem, but that AUD price is woeful. I wonder why they're only giving us 0.62 USD for 1 AUD for T1, but 0.68 USD for 1 AUD for T1 + T2. T2 is actually better value in AUD than USD on today's exchange rate. I wonder if they have a RNG doing their currency conversions. Crazy stuff!

Can anyone say if T2 is worth it? I haven't played If My Heart Had Wings but I'm probably going to buy at least T1 because I like reading visual novels.

If you like visual novels in general, i'm pretty sure this 85% off deal is extremely good

the bundle is on steam, it's cheaper for me too since I don't have to pay in USD and follow NA regional pricing.

Alright, so I've bought tier 1 and started reading through these (short opinion: Adventure of a Lifetime is a fun few hours and the LoveKami games suck) but I have a question:
How long will it actually take to read through Cross Channel, If My Heart Had Wings and A Sky Full of Stars?
Looking for answers from people who have read them, couldn't think of another place to ask. Looking at HLTB for A Sky Full of Stars for example, 12 hours main story and 62 hours completion sounds fucking ridiculous.
I don't listen to all dialogue and am a fast reader so I don't expect to reach the HLTB time anyway, but I like to complete all routes and I'd love to get an estimate of the time needed for these.
Comment has been collapsed.
If My Heart Had Wings took me 48 hours to read fully.
A Sky Full of Stars took me about 30ish hours total.
Cross Channel I dont remember, since I read it outside of steam before that version released (so no time tracking). Id estimate 20-30 hours?
Of course YMMV depending on how fast you read.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for your estimate! (I'll have to rethink which games to play this month because I do not have time for all of them...)
Comment has been collapsed.
I have 65 Hours in If my heart had wings. vndb states Length Long (30 - 50 hours)
didn't play the other 2 yet. Also keep in mind that the translation of it isn't the best one. especially at one route it was so bad that i partially didn't even understood what was going on. But since the Story / Game is so good i still finished it.

Thanks! I've heard that MoeNovel isn't that good but at least I've watched enough subbed anime to understand what they might be saying, hopefully that'll help me :/
