Hi,

I have a problem. Yesterday I made an trade with dota2keys for money paypal with a guy. He send the money first, and after i give him the keys. Everything was ok, i got the money, and he got the keys. After ~1-2 hours, i received an mail from paypal saying that my account is limited and my transactions on are put in "held". The guy told me that I would get my money back after a while but.. after more hours the transaction status has changed in "reserved", and he get the money back and the keys. I send some email to paypal but .. nothing.
I posted here just to clarify at least what happened to me. I know I don't get the money back and I made a mistake but I hope that others can not even repeat it and don't happens to the future.

Sorry for my bad english.

And this is why i never use paypal for anything, it's complete trash for whatever use you are going to give it.

You should have been more carefull really, there are people doing those kind of scams since the stone age, giving money for items and taking it back later, it just happened with you and you lost the keys and the money now.

Steamrep doesn't have any rep/trust system. It's 'clean'/empty if you haven't been caught for anything. It's only used to see if someone has been caught yet, but being clean doesn't mean you should trust them. Profile rep only matters if you know the people giving him rep. And for steamtrades, it's the same.

You should take screenshots of your conversations with him/paypal. Always document/record these types of trades. This link is what Valve wants done in these cases. Even though you're not supposed to be selling things for paypal anyway, they can't mark the person as a scammer if you don't report it. But you need proof in all cases (ie, the screenshots).

...well you can surely trust steamtrades rep, just check who gave him rep, if you are doubting that is...
i have like 70 rep there and never got scammed! Keys 99% of the time go first (if trading with good traders)
and then goes first whoever less rep...
If you are unsure of anyone, just dont trade, and move on

MaximumBunny, your answer is the best of one. Also you helped me to be able to know what to do in the future. Thanks very much.

Whenever you use PayPal for selling items that cannot be verified (like by certified mail), you have to have the buyer do a transfer to you as a "gift" not a "purchase" to prevent this from happening.

If you gift money to someone, it is not able to be challenged.

Actually it is still possible. I made multiple phone calls to Paypal (oh god the transfers and holds) and finally managed to get to someone who instantly refunded my money after I told her that I'm following up on the case where I got scammed by a key trader and sent the money as a gift.

lol, why? I've done like 300 trades on sourceop with paypal, and I've never been scammed. What's wrong with paypal?

I'm sure you didn't trust them all entirely based on "gift" and "will not chargeback". Dealing with randoms in a new environment is not recommended for noobs who lack the experience and discretion to avoid getting <that synonym for scammed/abused/harmed>.

Eventually, it will happen. There will be a transaction you sent and you never get your stuff. Paypal is far from perfect. The day you try to fight to get your money back is the day that paypal will screw you over.

This is true, happened with a friend of mine and my brother.

I made an account ages ago but never got to use it 'cause i never liked it. After things like that happen, people will just hate on it, like i do.

Yes. PayPal/eBay is one of the biggest piece of garbage companies on the planet.

I am forced to use eBay for work because they're essentially a monopoly. But I refuse to use PayPal. They are essentially no more than bankers (already filthy) without any legal pressure to adhere to.

I cannot express how awful they are to "deal with". Imagine Steam customer "support", except with your money and a direct link to your bank account. No.

Remove the link to the profile please. It's counted as calling out and might lead to a suspension. Sorry you got scammed. :( it sucks.

Could he spent his money right after he got them ? So PP cant take them back. Is it possible to protect myself in that way ??

Nope, if the money isn't in your account they'll just take it from whatever linked payment method you have.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate for me to tell you that if you can't trade please learn?

There are paypal employees that get paid to answer questions that you decided to ask us instead, please learn use the most practical ressource instead of what you are doing here.

I sold much keys and games for paypal a lot of times and never had problems. Paypal is secure 100% if you use "family and friends transaction".
Only "family and friends" (some time ago, called "personal ---> gift") is the unike fine transaction. Other types of transaction never should be used because those types of transactions are from Stores, and need the confirmation of the buyer, etc...

Be in mind that some countrys (like German for example) not support this type of transaction, so i never trade with countrys that dont have "family and friends".

If the buyer account is verified or not is not important. All "family and friends" transactions are fine.

Now im not selling nothing, but this is a example of a old post: Example <--- Use my rules next time and all will be good ;)

PD: "family and friends" transaction dont have Status, because is fine.

I hope that this help you and other future traders. Good luck ;)
