It's just the marketplace, the in-game service will still continue to function.

They're also porting Batman: AA to steamworks. I can finally buy it! I'm so pleased! And I might play BioShock 2, which I've owned for years...

Do you have a source for the porting information?

"Although the purchase functionality will be discontinued, the Games for Windows Live service will continue to operate as usual."
that means if you have a game that uses GFWL you can have even more problems with it will still be active but you may have more problems due to lack of support

I hate Microsoft... I want to have Age of Empires Online on Steam, to buy all them DLCs and stuff... cuz I have all other games... but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, your country isn't in top 42 countries we think we should support, so here, you can download it through Market Place, then FU... I hope now that more titles will be available on steam to other countries as well... damn Microsoft... and I am STILL waiting for Age of Mythology 2 to arrive, but alas, MS is stupid...

"Can I still buy Games for Windows Live games?

No, the PC Marketplace on Xbox.com will discontinue selling Games for Windows Live titles as of August 22, 2013. For information about Games for Windows Live titles not published by Microsoft, please contact the title’s publisher. "

also devs said that they will no longer support Age of Empires Online a while ago

I know that, but make the damned games available on steam for everyone... not only to those in 42 select countries... if they would put now, on steam, for me, AOEO, with it's DLCs to buy, I would buy them in an instant... I don't care if they no longer give support, I want the game on steam...

No, he's actually right. Only the marketplace will cease operations. What part of "To be clear, Games for Windows Live as a service will continue to operate." don't you understand?

I dont quite understand. Why should we spent the points now because later on it will convert to cash value.
"Microsoft Points will convert to an equivalent cash value on your Live account"

and this statement make me confuse:
"should spend your Microsoft Points before August 22 to avoid losing those funds altogether"
the funds wont lose right? it just convert the Microsoft Point into cash value.

Knowing M$, they'll probably convert the points at a rate of half of what they cost to buy.

They are shutting down the PC games store. So you'll have cash instead of points, but if you don't have Xbox or Windows phone, you won't have anything to spend that money on.

Am I like the only person that doesn't give a damn about whether or not GFWL is on or not? I actually enjoy being able to send messages to my XBL friends while I'm playing Halo 2... I just don't like how sometimes it can be a pain to set up (took 20 minutes to update and get my account into Halo 2).

For many people, GFWL has a habit of... not working at all. So when a game requires GFWL and doesn't support offline profiles it doesn't mean you can send messages to your XBL friends; it means you can't play.

I can't say I really care about this notice. For me, since the beginning, X360 is a feeble platform for games where I could use any PC to have a better gameplay experience than playing on it. Their exclusive titles never found a way to convince me that is a good choice of console.. And I can use it's controller on a PC :P

1 decade ago

And you're referring to the X360 because? This announcement is about Games for WINDOWS Live market closing down.

Its just the marketplace but thats better then nothing.

Whats ticked me off the most about it is that they sell games that require steam, but then if you want to buy any DLC for that game, you can't actually buy it through steam, you have to go out and buy stupid microsoft points and then you have to and buy the DLC with those points and unlike steam neither of them ever go on sale or at least never go on deep sale.

And of course you have will have points left over or need to buy a few points because you end up 10 or so points short of getting everything.

This is why I never bought anything on the market place.

So good riddance GFWL Marketplace. The only thing I am sad about is that games I like, I will not be able to buy DLC for cause I doubt they will move the ability to buy the DLC to steam.
