PS: Links can end up broken for unknown reasons, but they still load at times it seems. The first link quote of the main post is:

"I went to go pre-order The Xbox One today.
I know I know what you guys are thinking! But even though my GUT and HEAD tell me NO... MY HEART TELLS ME YES!
I love the original xbox and the xbox 360 so much that I almost pre-ordered the Xbox One.
I asked the gamestop employee how many Ps4 Pre-orders they have and he said 50...
Then I asked the employee how many Xbox One Pre-orders they have and he said 4... and two of them were from their own employees who are already getting both.
I decided not to put a pre-order on any of the systems. I will look into going into PC gaming.
Xbox One triumphs Ps4 in every single feature... But the Used Games and Online Policy kills it for me.
Those numbers I received from gamestop today aren't just numbers...
I will more then happily go and drop $1000 on release date on the xbox one if they remove these policies.
But until then... Hello PC Gaming."

It is not some kind of conspiracy by Microsoft or anything you want to believe it is. If they are sold out they are actually sold out. While you sit and talk within your group of close friends and online gamers, who all know how awful the Xbox One is, you forget to take in to account the number of people who are purchasing this console who A) do not read up on details and just see "oh new xbox i will buy that because i liked 360" B) are buying it for children or relatives as gifts C) legitimately do not mind all the bad stuff about it.

And I have news for you, these three groups vastly out number the amount of voices on the internet crying "WORST CONSOLE EVER WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY THIS"

Haha, no.

That's like saying the 21 supported countries this gen are more than the previous generation supported list, go bury yourself! Though option A is actually a potential group that is going to cause trouble.

Comment has been collapsed.

No, that's like saying 21 supported countries hold the majority of sales, and the rest matter less. Not to mention more countries will be added.

The majority of gamers are: a) in one of these countries; b) have a constant (or near constant) internet connection to their console; c) don't sell their games (not that this will likely be a serious problem, since I assume that it will be possible to sell most Xbox One games).

Makes no sense, previous generations were sold in many more countries on release, xbox one didn't. The thing i see here, is that microsoft targeted the countries with better economy balance, because both greece and portugal were removed from the supported list on launch, both are facing economy crysis so i guess that rings a bell on them.

I don't see them doing much with the support list, not with such a fail system that targets the rich people anyways. Most console gamers in Portugal for example, are offline players like me. The majority that plays online does it on computer (LoL or CS 1.6 NS/Steam are the biggest hits in these parts).

I just checked Wikipedia and it looks like the Xbox 360 launch was similarly limited. Also according to Wikipedia, Xbox Live is currently supported in 42 countries, so the Xbox One release is expected in half these countries, which isn't that bad.

It is bad, alot of costumers don't like the fact that their country was removed from the launch list and are willing to buy ps4 early because they have easier access to it.

The real thing stopping me from buying nazibox one is the 24 online check, it's damn impossible to do that where i live. All internet services are crappy for the area i live in as the signal is pretty weak, the only reasonable connections for me are the mobile ones.

Can you use your phone for tethering I imagine that would allow the Xbox One to make its checks in case the internet is down for over 24 hours.

You don't get my point, xbox forums actually has more people posting things against xbox one than favoring the console this time. The thread i posted with idiots protecting the console are fanboys to the max, alot of people the past 3 days were posting alot of threads saying microsoft is going to loose a good portion of gamers this gen if they stick with the plan.

Even so, alot of threads got deleted aswell, because mods get butthurt or something, i guess.

Consoles features are interesting. I don't care about used game, as i only buy new game. Never bought a use game or sold my use game, still have all my old N64 games. Exclusive are more interesting, for me, that the one of PS4. I will soon preorder one. I don't want to start an console war, but i liked my Xbox360, any never liked the playstation.

Sony is probably in bed with Microsoft. As monopoly is illegal, they sure found a way to up the prices in the future, thus Microsoft didn't bother to make too many Xbox ones. And if anyone question my logic, think again about the world we live in, and our history.

1 decade ago

no logic at all. MSRP for both consoles will stay the same, it will not go up. You really have no evidence of that.
Believe me, Microft wishes they could make more Xbox Ones. But they arent, because they are having yield problems. No conspiracy there.

No, more like "Yes because everyone who supports this kind of DRM is an idiot and most likely selfish :D"

It's the typical american thought "Hey guys let's make things thinking about our country when there is a famous worldwide known term which is referred to as GLOBALISATION". America is full of idiots just like that, and they are selfish aswell because they only think about themselves when it comes to creating things that should be equal to everyone, not just a selected few.

They did well with the previous 2 consoles, they messed up big time with this one, not every freaking country in the world is as advanced as the USA itself, you/them should know better than this. Saying otherwise will just make you look dumb to my eyes.

  1. I am not an American, and in no way do I support this DRM. My country is not among the 21 countries that is in the MS support list and prolly will never be in it, but it doesn't mean that people who do have the infrastructure for something like the Live network should not enjoy the benefits of it (pretty sure you don't even know where my country is)
  2. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Calling them an idiot for having a different opinion to you is childish at best.

Have a good day :)

Who cares if it sold out? Doesn't change that it is still a piece of garbage compared to PS4 and Microsoft has already lost a bunch of previous generation customers since E3 started. This is a marketing ploy to rope in more suckers who always base their decisions on what everyone else is doing. Also to beat a dead horse here, selling out on pre-orders means nothing if they don't reveal how many units they sold.

I'm really getting tired about those idiotic comments about how poeple who buy the XBox One are dumb and so forth. You don't like the console or the DRM, just don't buy it and mind your own business.

There are more people who don't know or don't care than there are who are butthurt about the diretion MS has taken. There will be people buying both consoles, and lots of them. If MS sales dwindle enough they will have to rethink their strategy but calling people dumb because they don't share your view on things is pretty retarded.

Personally, I don't care about it since I play almost exclusively on PC and my last console was the Wii. (Mostly used for family entertainement)

It's not pathetic when you think that buying M$'s Xbone pretty much recreates 1984 in your own living room. Plus how Microsoft was one of the first to jump onto the Prism bandwagon makes this deal so much worse.

Oh and hey did I mention the Xbone is only going to be available in 21 countries at launch?

But it's pretty pathetic to think that everyone is praising Sony for not completely screwing them over. Such is the state of the current games industry and it is indeed a complete shambles. Buying any of the next-gen consoles is a completely unjustified waste of money, imo.

The only real problem I see with Xbox One is the 24hour sign in which I'm guessing is bound to be altered. MS is trying to push the consoles into a new era. They are trying to adopt a concept similar to Steam and in so doing bring the prices of games down from $60 to more reasonable prices.
I don't see the problem with this digital distribution. It works great for Steam. I don't know why people are soo keen to continue to get royally screwed by gamestop in tradeins. "HEY Microsoft! We love being F'ed over by GameStop! Why take that away from us!?!?"

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

IF the prices of the games would be lower with that system they already would have said it I think. Don't get your hopes up, they are already complaining about not enough profit with AAA games (shit happens when you spend more money on marketing than on the the game).

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Everyone was hating on Steam when it first released and now its loved by all. It takes a little time for this to work so ya, I expect the prices to go down with all the people already purchasing the system. Not right away but definitely during the XboxOnes liftime.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They said the same at the start of DLC, prices never went down. :p

and http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/13/bleszinski-on-xbox-one-used-block-big-budget-games-pre-owned-cannot-co-exist/

I really doubt they'll sell/earn that much more when they (pretty much) disable used games, they are already complaining about not earning enough. You can hope all you want, I'm pretty convinced that it will never go down (talking about AAA games obviously).

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree with you completely. The move to limit and charge for 'preowned' games shows that they are money hungry. More money for the big companies. Xbox will never lower their prices because they have no reason to. People still buy their games and probably always will. Console game prices are the reason I came back to PC gaming in the first place.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Please hide yourself, do not, ever again compare valve/steam with microsoft, that's the dumbest mistake a person can do related to gaming industry.

They will never drop the freaking prices of games the same way steam does, NEVER. You read that right, NEVER.

Let me spell that ouf for you, so you don't miss it, it's N-E-V-E-R going to happen, capiche? They even made prices for games on release higher this gen and you expect them to lower the prices so they become cheap? What kind of BS is this...

They might be trying to copy steam, but that doesn't mean they will do the samething as steam does, and for microsoft's sake, i do freaking hope they remove the 24 hour check in before release, that's what matters the most to me, not the freaking used games nonsense, couldn't care less about those since i could live pretty good with just 3-4 games on xbox, the ones i look forward to obtain. I only buy used games to pile up crap and i don't even get to play everything as often as i used to.

Is there a link that gives information such as how many were actually sold? Out of desperation, it is possible Microsoft only allowed people to buy a certain amount so it would sell out easily, thus creating a hype for it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Impossible to get that kind of info, at least for me it is. Though the best you can do is ask retailer shops in shopping malls how many preorders there are for each new console, and based of that you can see how things are going, like the quoted example in my OP.

50 ps4 preorders vs 4 xbox one in a gamestop store, now imagine if most shops have a similiar pattern, microsoft is really going to run out of business this way unless they change their approach with their clients. I always prefered the xbox because it reminded me of sega dreamcast, it was my favourite console, along with sega mega drive 2 and sega saturn, went through all of them, dreamcast died too early, then i saw xbox show up and i had my hopes that it would be a nice thing to buy, found out about Halo CE on xbox, got super glued to that thing and basically i had to keep on buying their crap in order to play that games, along with a few others. And as you can see, those past hopes are all ruined now, with some moron trying to mess with the gaming industry in a bad way.

If xbox one is a gaming console with other things included, the main feature, which is gaming, should be available to all, not just a selected few. I don't want a damn xbox one to watch TV, that's BS. I want it to play the games i want to buy, without being forced to do anything else, console gaming is all about the freedom of simply inserting the disc in and play, these morons over at microsoft don't understand that and want to destroy things that are properly fine worldwide. It's like they are destroying something so usefull for everyone with only having in mind a few costumers, that's idiotic in so many ways i can't even explain.

MicroSoft wants LARGE lines out of stores. It's purely a hype thing. They want tons of people camped out and they want people turned away. They want to hype it from the TV coverage and they want those who kinda want it to want it even more.
