What is your favorite MMO?
one of the best mmos i played, with crafting sys, jobs, best fighting mechanics(skills, block timings, dodge timings, pvp, pve) is Blade and Soul but you need great ping for pvp. Best community ive seen is PSO2 JP, still active till today.

Customization is insane, battle mechanics is the best one ive seen, u need good timing to dodge block etc, only thing i hated about it is bcoz i live in AUS, i usually go to chinese, jp area servers to get better ping, but have to deal with the text in missions and everyone speaks native. So i only played like 150 hrs or less but great times man T_T, another problem maybe is that, it probably isn't as active as it was before.
Unlike pso2 with still has a goddamn huge community active. But pso2 has a really simple battle system. not much combo unlike blade and soul which you have to mash keyboard buttons in order(best class https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgsWlKrnEzo ) <<combos
pros of both is the goddamn customization, damn spent 5 hrs customizing char. // and there are lots of cosmetics in the game like damn..
** i apologize for the long text, just really nc to see someone getting interested in the game again. Good times man

the best MMO is Path of Exile, no doubt
just look for a good build in the forums and follow that build.

A couple pf us here still play Tera Online. It's free on Steam and maybe you can find us to be friends.

You could try Path of Exile, it's a perfectly fine free to play MMORPG. Also, take a look at Trove if you'd like a sandbox RPG (more emphasis on building). I played and enjoyed both of them :)
As for finding the MMOs confusing, well I think it all will come to you naturally when you have played several of them ;) Those games also usually have their subreddits and game wikis, very useful for finding info and guides for begginers. Whichever online game you chose to play, I wish you the best of luck with it! :)

Not really sure about any, know some people who enjoy Guild Wars, and I've seen that the character creator in Black Dessert Online is insanely detailed

Personally, I always enjoy a wall of text. Especially if it's about something someone enjoys. Thanks for the video!
I was thinking about buying Black Desert but then I heard a few people tell me it was pretty hardcore. I would definitely be lost. I appreciate the warning.

I prefer my MMOs to be mostly single-player games in a shared setting, so my interest is always in games that either accommodate or cater to players who will do most of their adventuring solo (I don't necessarily enjoy playing with strangers - it can be surprisingly fun when it works, and endlessly aggravating when it doesn't). My free time is variable, so I tend to play and stop in fits and starts. Since I won't be playing all the time or even vaguely consistently, I only go for games that don't require a monthly subsciption; from time to time, if I'm having fun, I'll pay for a month or two, and then drop back to free.
That said, I've enjoyed:
Lord of the Rings Online (played this for several years)
Guild Wars/Guild Wars 2
Neverwinter
Secret World Legends
I'm currently playing Secret World, and I might try stepping back into Neverwinter for a while. I played Neverwinter a lot last year.
LOTRO had a really nice community for a while, not sure how it is now. Guild Wars was good as well, maybe not stellar but it was pretty easy to gravitate toward non-griefy players.

It's not as much of a giant-raid destructo-blast kind of MMO as some others, but it has been very popular for a long time. The graphics are definitely aging, so you won't find it as bright and crisp as newer ones, but for fans - I'm one too - there's a kind of thrill just playing in Middle Earth. They respect Tolkien's lore, which is a giant plus for me. There's a lot added in other areas, but the basics are there, and are treated properly. It's a gentler game than many, which is in line with the books. Very rich in story. It's different enough in style that it comes down to taste, I reckon.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I played Trove and really enjoyed it. I would love to get Elder Scrolls Online but I don't know... Plus I'd most likely play alone and supposedly those games are good with friends... whatever friends means...

SWTOR is very friendly to beginners. You can level up pretty fast there til the F2P level cap, and with a one month subscription ($15) you'll have access to every expansion. Every class has it's own fully fledged and 100% voiced, many of them are better than AAA games.
You don't need to like the star wars world to really enjoy it, but the same can be said about the rest of the games, where you don't even know anything about their worlds before you start. The biggest issue is the infinity GB download you need before starting.

I also never knew nor liked how MMORPGs work, but when I tried my first MMO, I fell in love with the game and spent hours and hours playing it with friends. Most of my friends left the game, but that didn't stop me from finding some new friends in game, which helped me out to do some raids and dungeons etc.
So if you want to try out new MMORPG, I recommend you to try Blade & Soul, if you like combos and fast phased combat, it's best choice for you. There is also really good character customization and many different classes, also story of the game is pretty good, if you plan to start playing it, I recommend you watching all cut scenes. The only lack is maybe open world, if you like to wander around with low level character, you won't be able to that here, you will need to follow story quest to be able to see whole world, but still map is pretty big and different regions are pretty unique and interesting on it's own way.
Also forgot to mention that the game is Free to Play and there is not many things that you can buy with micro transactions other then cosmetics and some little helpful stuff.

I've played most MMOs you can think of, from the Koreans grindfest out there to the most popular Western's MMOs.
I really think Guild Wars 2 is the best choice for a newbie in this genre, it's really easy to get into it and the devs made a lot choices in that sense IMO. They just announced the new expansion so for 50 bucks you can get the full experience (Base game + 2 expansions) and that would give you an incredible amount of content to explore. Note that you can also try the base game for FREE if you are not sure about it.
There's too much things to say so for keeping it short i will just say that it has :
• Great community and with the megaserver system you're almost sure to find people around to help you out.
• Classes feels unique and fun to play, you can even up a class to lvl 2 and then enter to "The Myst" area so you can try any skills of your class. (no more regret after leveling a new char)
• World is really fun to explore, just take your time (at least for the first playthrough).

Star Wars: The Old Republic hands down is one of the best MMOs I've played.

I only play World of Warcraft because I'm obsessed with Warcraft lore in general and love a great deal of its characters. So despite not liking MMO I have been playing WoW since its early beta for like 14-15 years (with some breaks here and there). It's been so long I actually lost track of how many years it has been.
If it didn't have monthly subscription system I'd definitely recommend it. There are a lot of great features in the game that I'd just list here but in the end monthly subscription is a big annoyance. If that doesn't hinder you and you would like to know more about the game, I'm happy to provide any information you need.

Personally, I really don't like playing MMOs, especially on Steam. Either there is a lot of hacking going on, or the servers are just plain dead. I mostly play Star Wars the Old Republic (SWTOR - as recommended by a few others) because I prefer to solo play - and I don't need a subscription. You might want to hurry though. The Nar Shaddaa Nightlife Event ends on the 22nd! SHAMELESS PLUG: Interested in trying out SWTOR? Check out my Steam profile. It has a 'refer a friend' link where you can get free goodies, plus a 7 days subscription! :)
Some others I can suggest without knowing what you like are EverCrack II EverQuest II, Mabinogi (also available on Steam), Star Trek Online (also on Steam), Kritika Online, MapleStory.
TL;DR
See http://www.mmorpg.com/games-list for detailed info.
When in doubt, Google!

I played Maplestory for years. I still love that game, but I honestly just hate the premium that makes it not so fun.
I wont go back to playing it because it's such a whale of a game, if I could make myself a private server in the current version I would probably play it again xD...

Agreed! Unfortunately nearly all 'F2P' MMOs are P2W in some fashion. In some ways I can understand why they do this, because it provides continuing support for the game. However, Diablo 3 is one of the few exceptions, even if it isn't open world. (I really wish Blizz would've thought about how they were going to provide end-game content during D3's development since it forces users to play online, but... ah, well.)

Diablo looks cool, I like being more involved with character movement though. I've heard great things about Guild wars but after Maplestory I cant bring myself to dive into another mmo ever again.

Can't say as I blame you one bit, and felt the same way when the Dungeon Runners servers shut down for good before my free 6 month subscription expired. I haven't cared for MMOs since my installation disc has long since become a coaster, but will check out some F2P ones on occasion just to see if they're any good. It has to have high re-playability and solo-play that I can really get into, like SWTOR for instance, before I'll even consider paying... unless White Wolf finally comes out with another game since VtMB. If they say it requires a subscription, I'll be all over that one like stink on shit. :P

I'm still trying to trade for a copy of VtMB xD. It looks like a fun game :D

So far I'm aware of, there aren't really goor MMORPGs out there at the moment. WoW has become worse according to many, RiFT is dead, ArcheAge died due to Trion milking the game and BDO also has issues.
Runescape also has its issues, but it lives and is F2P (kinda).
Don't touch any MMORPG or game from Nexon, trust me just don't.
Maybe SWL is worth checking out, I haven't played it so I can't say anything about it.
As MMO part: Check out Path of Exile, it just got a major update and it's now a great time to start or revisit the game. I can help you out in the game if you like, just make sure to go to the official forums and follow a "build guide".

I love trying new game genres but one genre I could never understand is MMOs. I tried a few and they were incredibly confusing.
Does anyone know any good MMO's for beginners? Preferably ones on steam. I'll also take MMORPG suggestions since I honestly don't know the difference between the two.
lvl 2 gib lvl 1 gib
Also I hope the poll isn't incorrect. I just googled popular ones :)
Hope everyone has a good week!
