Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville. Love his books. Really looking forward to starting The Rats of NIMH by Robert C O'Brien. Then Murtagh by Paolini. I didn't even know he had continued the Eragon series until I saw Murtagh just recently.

Though, I find I don't have time to read nearly as often as I want. My pile of books to read is crazy bad.

The last book I finished was Norwegian Wood, by Haruki Murakami. Beautiful book! I'd say 9.5/10

The best book that I've ever read in my opinion is Blindness, by Jose Saramago. Easy 10/10.

Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell .....in 2019, atleast thats what Goodreads tells me. Probably a 7/10

Embarrassing I know. I think have an attention or commitment or resistance problem or something. I have set 20 books as target for 2024. Fingers cross, I at least read 1. by the end of March.🙉

"Worm" by John C. McCrae.
Really good story about superpowers with some really cool plot developments, and a good number of "shit just got real" moments.
Oh, and its completely free. Googling it should show the author as "Wildbow".

Their writing style is a bit rough, as this was their first major work, but it's worth it just for the ride. A protagonist who is immensely resourceful with what she has, plus a great and incredibly vast supporting cast. It might seem a little ponderous at first while it sets up the situation, and the first fight may seem a little lukewarm given a good amount of it is... 'remote'. But it gets a lot hotter from that very early tipping point.

Was perfect for me, even when read via my phone in spare moments at work. Once it got its claws into me I couldn't put it down. This is the stepping-on point for this author for a good reason!

some nice light reads after confronting with the three-headed Tolkien beast (Silmarillion - Hobbit - Lord of the Rings) last year :D

Last one I finished was Chaingang All Stars and it was pretty good.
Although it got a lot of scifi related award, it's not technically sci-fi, more like speculative fiction with a side of fictional technology.

Sci-fi wise, the last one was Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It's the first of 3 books and it's classic scifi in the space opera genre but it's really side stepping the clichés and tropes.

And as always I have to recommend Robin Hobb's Liveship Traders Trilogy (starts with Ship of Magic) to anyone who loves high fantasy and is looking for a refreshing take on the genre... and who isn't afraid of thick books.

Last book I finished was Harry Potter. Finished the whole series in 2023. Overall still a slow year - before that I managed to read about 40 books a year. As for Harry Potter - I don't think it really needs much of an introduction or review. Half Blood Prince is the only one I have rated 5/5 on goodreads. Others probably suffered from the same plot holes, illogical characters and just stupid writing for which the story is known for. But hey - the story is cool despite all that anyway.

Currently though I am reading Needful Things by Stephen King - Mentioning that since I am already on the final stretch to finishing it. Really great mystery novel. In the usual Stephen King style - slow build up while setting up intricate world and characters and then hell is being let loose. Beginning was maybe a bit too slow and sometimes lost my interest in finishing, but gets more interesting and interesting. Truly want to see how it ends up and maybe even see the movie adaptation as well.

anyone know a site that gives legit details on what the most popular new books are? i really wanna find more magical adventure books. but i cant trust sites cuz too many only list books that are paid reviews. like new yorks best sellers list is always fake and they only list what they get paid to list lol

Overall GoodReads could be a good place to look for reviews and lists. I guess there probably are some paid reviewers as well, but overall has really good amount of users and ratings.

Dino Buzzati - "The Tartar Steppe", Giorgio Bassani - "The Heron", Alexandros Papadiamantis - "The Murderess". Three kinds of existential dread in paper form. I was exceptionally lucky to pick these belters back-to-back.

Well the title of the book is one of the worst racial slurs you can say, N. But it's by Dick Gregory, famous black comedian and Civil rights activist.

Don't click this link if words like that make you uncortable. But I think the author chose to title to get your attention, and even though it's old enough to retire, this book deserves it. If you grew up easy, or even if you think you grew up hard, you should go find out what hard really is.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, by Gabrielle Zevin. A superb story of life, love not love, and friendship between two game designers. 10 out of 10 wouldn't be amiss.

Cat Among the Pigeons, by Agatha Christie, is an interesting read.
A classic whodunit with a surprising culprit, a clever plot, and a unique setting (a prestigious boarding school).
This is the first work of Agathe that I've read.

Currently, I'm reading Origin (Dan Brown) and Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (Yuval Noah Harari).

Most recent book I finished: The Front by Mandasue Heller. I bought it at a thrift shop because my mother's name is Sue and my sister's name is Amanda but usually goes by Manda, so...Mandasue...

It started off kinda meh, 2 30-something chavs I gave zero fks about decide to rob a local supermarket run by a Pakistani man named Pasha and his nephews, they rope in their 2 mates who aren't quite chavs but are still a bit dodgy, Pasha gets killed, unbeknownst to the chavs and their mates, the money was bound for a local druglord Rasta. Hijinks ensue, I end up actually giving a damn the two mates of the chavs, and it all winds up pretty nicely.

Currently reading Velocity by Dean Koontz (just started) and listening to audiobooks of Lone Wolf by Gregg Hurwitz, read by Scott Brick (the newest Orphan X book) and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart by Holly Ringland, read by Louise Crawford.

Do LN's count?

I just finished 8 volumes of Reborn as a Space Mercenary.

Now re-reading the first few volumes of Loner Life in Another World, which is so hilariously stupid, i had to drop it after a few volumes, as the weird pacing was causing me brain damage XD

I got into them when i realized how much more story there was to the many anime i've enjoyed.

Everyone should give it a try!

Pick your favorite anime, and jump into the LN or Manga. Some people dont like going back over the story that the anime covered, but i really enjoy seeing what wasnt included in the show, and how well or poorly they translated the source material.

Some shows i wouldnt want to watch again, but i'd be happy to re-read the source... i.e The Hobbit or Game of Thrones

Cool... i dont read much manga normally, but started to get into some webtoons, and dl'd the Mihon app and got it all set up recently, so now got a slew of 30 manga that were suggested to me.

When it comes to stories already animated, i tend to prefer to read the LN after watching the anime, as it seems to give a ton more depth than either the anime or the manga.

It's been awhile since i read a book that wasn't a handbook or guide on photoshop or premiere or some other design type thing

But before that the last book i read was "Killing Pablo" By mark bowden, the inspiration for the "Narcos" show, and a phenomenal telling of the complete Pablo Escobar story, start to finish, as well as all the cartels, and Colombia itself, a very troubled country.

A must read, in my opinion, my favorite non fiction book next to the autobiography of Malcom X

Last "actual" books i read were in highschool, i never got much into books when i was a kid, i read a lot of Spanish/Argentine literature, a lot of great works, i just searched some of the books i have read and that were memorable:

First of them was "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" (Cronica de una muerte anunciada) from Gabriel García Marquez, i really liked this one, the way the story was told was a new concept for me at the moment, i really want to read it again, it even has an audiobook version from what i saw, so if you ever have some time for a new book, maybe you'll enjoy this one, even tho i really don't know if the english translation is good or not, you can tell me if you ever give it a shot! I doubt it would take more than one day to listen in it's entirety.
The little prince is also one i'd love to read again, my mother told me i had read it entirely when i was little, i really didn't remember, but yeah, i heard a lot of good stuff about this book and i still have it on hand, it's not Spanish nor Argentine literature, it's French, but i felt like putting this here on a "wish to read" sort of list.

Then, onto today's date, i feel weird talking about mangas right after talking about other types of literature, it just feels like it has... Less importance? if that makes sense. I went from thinking that people that read mangas were dweebs and stuff like that, to falling in love with a manga, that manga was Chainsaw Man, i just really liked the illustrations and randomness of the manga, but even after finishing reading the whole first arc, i was more amazed every day learning stuff about the creator, Tatsuki Fujimoto, like the reasons behind stuff he wrote or did, for example, the inspiration behind one of the characters, Makima, from the lips of Fujimoto himself: "I like bossy unreasonable girls"... Yeah, that's when i knew i liked the guy.
Currently trying to get at the very least the entire first arc on physical copies, i would love to get the English or Japanese versions, but i really cannot afford to bring so many books over to my country haha, so for now im collecting them in Spanish, i like the translation tho, sometimes absurd, sometimes just cool. 9/10 manga series (Up to first arc ending, haven't been able to read anything from the rest)
