In the review you linked the developer shared a link to a topic where they explain the situation, and according to that the "checks what have you done" part is absolutely false. The topic is up for more than 3 weeks, why don't you address it's content in any ways, but believe what a random player wrote in their "review" ?

there is 1 review taht had multiple posts about the situation, trying to find it, MULTIPLE people btw say in the reviews and other forums that it CHECKS PATHS + Files you accessed in the last days so not just 1 person
i will edit or re-reply to you once i find taht review again with the links brb

ALSO when you UNinstall the game it STAYS on your computer still, xing anti-cheat Rootkit ,potential malware/hack opening to anyone who works at Xing or could hack xing

That wasa also posted before the explanation, and you still quoting reviews that were falsified by the devs, and you ignore the dev's statement in the issue, making the topic one-sided, and as far as one random reader can tell, not even true.
Also this review also has the dev's comment about the explaining topic that you still didn't check apparently. Next time at least read after stuff before posting.

It's standard anticheat. If it did the illegal thing you claim it does, it would be on the blacklist of every antivirus. Instead, almost 3 years after someone posted that unsubstantiated claim on a forum to circumvent anticheat tools...nothing. Publishers and devs still put it in their games, antivirus apps still ignore it. Stop scaring people.

He's referring to virus\spyware added to software\games, I remember there was a case last year with a game on Steam that had a virus.
I don't know about this case but I'm keeping my eyes on the thread

This type of thing is bad news. Anyone remember when SONY added rootkits that self-installed on to the music CD they sold?
It wasn't long after that, viruses start to pop up that exploited them.

It uses XingCode?? Yeah I wouldn't touch it. I try to stay away from most of the 3rd party ones like that Punkbuster that runs 24/7 on your system and Gameguard which causes lots of issues including BSODs. In house anticheats normally cause so many less problems from my experience. A lot of the 3rd party Anticheats stay in your system after you remove the game, which is ridiculous. At least the dev lists what stays in your system so you can remove it manually.

If you play any game online especially an MMORPG it has an anticheat, all of them that I'm aware of scan the memory of your PC. What the dev isn't mentioning is if you open a web browser, document or do anything while a game is being played it detects that activity which include key strokes. Despite the dev stating it's not a rootkit Anti cheats can be classified as a rootkit because it does in fact behave like one.

I was actually thinking of buying this game during the sale, until finding out about the root kit.

If you play an online game it has an anitcheat/rootkit..just in case you didn't know.

Actually I haven't played any online-only games in over 10 years other then SQUAKE (which I won here). Was really big into them though back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Also, anti-cheat software is not the same thing as a rootkit. They can be, but it's certainly not common for them to be so invasive as to be labeled as such.

They are considered rootkits because they behave like rootkits. Most people that work in the field of PC security such as a malware analyst do refer to them commonly as rootkits, especially ones that are extremely intrusive like Punkbuster that stay running 24/7.

It is not a rootkit. It is anti-cheat software, and it HAS to be intrusive to an extent, otherwise it won't be able to detect cheating.
As far as damaging the game. Hardly. There are a lot of players online at all times and I can honestly say this game has the least amount of 3rd party seller spam in the chat channels, out of all the mmos I've tried.
I don't like shit that stays around either, but it is possible to remove Xing fairly easily if that's what anyone wants. Xing is not about infesting the system, which is what a rootkit does, it's about detecting cheats.

Anyway, I enjoy my time with BDO (non-steam). Easily the deepest game I've played thus far. People don't want to try it, because of anti-cheat software? Their loss :)

Though that's true to some extent... the fact that it doesn't have an uninstaller and doesn't automatically get removed when you uninstall the game isen't okay.

Software shouldn't be hidden from the user ever. There's simply no reason for that. Anyone who wants to develop cheats or use them will know about this software regardless. The only ones who doesn't is legitimate users, and they should have the choice if they want it or not.

Explanation of the dev about what Xigncode does that OP forgot to include in his topic, despite that it's been posted in both reviews he linked, and is pinned in the forums
At least read around a little if you try to post about something controversial, even though the reviews are almost 1,5 month olds and the devs addressed the issue more than 3 weeks ago.

Imagos Softworks vs. Alex Mauer. Which has gone beyond a single game, and even beyond gaming in general.

All I'll say is that it started with a composer for a video getting a contract dispute with the developer's company, it escalated when innocent bystanders got dragged into this by way of spurious DMCA claims on 70+ youtube videos, and it's now at a point that makes Digital Homicide look like a perfectly sane business.
