Too bad it only opens in 154 days...

Update: The bank opened 25/3/2018 and closed on the same day. I ended up with 2 wins :-)

Totally Unbalanced

I bank points, is's almost a requirement now with the static point generation, just as I said it would be here before the change was made. I have become addicted to this site over the past couple years and was hoping the new points system would reduce the amount of time I spend here, but it has unfortunately increased it.

Here is my opinion on users banking points.

I don't have an issue with users banking points. I definitely don't intend to try to find a way to get rid of the points I accumulated with this exercise, but I do think that it would not benefit site to allow scripts to be used for this purpose. On second though, this post by Nimmy makes me think that it might not be such a bad idea.

I wish there was an optional ironman/hardcore mode. You get your 400P, and... that's it. No regeneration, no nothing. The only way to increase your point balance would be to create them yourself by making gibs.*

*Although this may lead to incentivising making more gibs for bottom of the barrel trash, which I personally try not to if I can help it.

Yes, it's more of a Piggy bank than a regular bank.

I've thought a bit more about the banking process, and I've read the posts Yirg and AlltracTurbo mentioned above, and I think I'm against it.
Not really the idea of banking, but more how you have to do it.

It's obvious that if you are only interested in very few games, banking is the good option, and will greatly increase your chance to win compared to people who don't bank.

The problem is that you have to engage in inane activities to bank. Having each day to enter giveaways that you will leave the day/week after is stupid, and such activities should not be encouraged.
If banking is supposed to be authorized (and it currently is), then having to do it manually does not make any sense. Either there should be a button "bank my points" that you should have to push each day (which admittedly is not that much better), or there should be no point cap at all: points should continually increase at the rate of 6P every 15 minutes, with no cap.
Basically bankers are already in the second configuration, but by having to do menial tasks each day. It's stupid. I mean, at this point, everyone should be using a script.

(Thinking more, I found an argument against banking: it differentiates between old users and new users).

You make a convincing case about allowing automated banking, or even having built-in support for it. I updated my post above where I objected to the idea of banking scripts, but granted, it was mostly based on the idea it not "feeling" right than some well thought out rationale.

As for such a feature differentiating between old users and new users, there are ways to solve it. One way to do it would be to a hard limit for the amount of points one can bank, e.g. 3000 points, and grant all users (including every new member) this amount as a starting point. This would actually favor (to a short period) new users and would permanently favor those who are selective about the GAs they enter. I'm ok with giving both groups a slight advantage.

Giving a limited advantage to new users is good because it's really cool to win something early and it encourages them to stay and participate and not think the site is a scam. That's the main reason why most of my SGTools-protected GAs allow all users with no wins to enter, regardless of their level.

Giving a permanent advantage to users who are selective about entering is good because it increases the chance that the winner would actually be interesting in playing the game.

Yes, it's a lot of work and becomes more so if you want to see how many points you've accumulated, as you have to exit all entered giveaways.

Getting to a round number is even more difficult, especially if you have mixed feelings about winning. Personally I want to win the few giveaways I'm currently entered to, but prefer to win them later (when I have a higher percentage of played giveaways). Once the last giveaways I entered end, I'll have my nice and round 2000 points set without additional grooming needed. There's a good chance I won't win anything, as these three giveaways currently have about 14000, 3000, and 1900 entries.

And yes, I know the above doesn't really illustrate a problem that many people have ;-)

It took me about a few days to go from 2000 to 400, though the bulk of it was all in one day (March 25). It proved to be a good tactic, as I'm not sure I would have won anything if I only had 400 points to spend. I'll probably aim to accumulate 3000 points in the bank for next year :-)

That's the number of days until my next win, at least going by the last couple of years.
