Why would you feel shame for picking an avatar that does not represent you in reality?
Unless you really think that I'm a cube in an abstract geometric abyss, and your other fellow posters are celebrities, anime characters and memes... then this seems to imply that you felt cheated by this one person in particular. Why? Because you felt attracted to the mental image you built upon the avatar image?

Are you implying that your contact with this person suddenly means nothing just because of who you see them as? Doesn't that kind of imply a negative upon yourself, and your presumptions/attitudes based on surface judgements? Just sayin'

It'd be different if they were actively trying to fool you and play with your head/emotions, then you'd have every right to be annoyed or upset. But right now? It's not a big deal. Consider it a fast-track lesson on the internet in general, it may have just saved you some real heartbreak or conflict later on.
