Long story short my nephew, who is living at the same household as me, got a copy of Rainbox Six: Siege from me. I just bought it off steam with my own account since it was the easier and cheaper option for me and let him use it since I thought (wrongly/dumbly) that he will only need uplay to play it. But NO it uses my steam library too so I don't have access to my other games while he is playing. And he plays a LOT. And I mean it. So in the meantime I can't play nor use trading card farming because of this.

Is there any workaround? For a game bought and activated on steam to use ONLY uplay and leave alone your steam library? I honestly don't think there is after searching the whole internet for answers but I thought it'd worth a try to post here. I wouldn't have the heart to tell him to stop playing or restrict his playing time even for a minute.

I don't think so you can it's linked to your steam account so can't be separated.

I don't own Raibow Six: Siege on Steam, but sometimes you can use the CD-code from the game in Uplay and activate it there as well. The CD-code that displays when you start the game or that you can find here
Never mind. This doesn't work.

I read over what you wrote like five times but something is still not clear. If I share my library, whether it is Rainbow Six Siege or any other game, if the person is using this shared library and I would start a game on my own account it would instantly kick him out, wouldn't it?

Has this changed recently? I tried sharing my library with my brother a few months ago and if I started any game it would kick him a few minutes later since the "library" was in use.

So you can't play two games that both require online connection?

You cannot play two games, period. If the owner is playing any game on a Steam account, nobody else can play any game from that account. Unless the game is DRM-free, then they can run it without Steam running, assuming they downloaded it beforehand.

According to Steam, yes.
"When I authorize a device to lend my library to others, do I limit my own ability to access and play my games?
As the account holder, you may always access and play your games at any time. If you decide to start playing when another user is already playing one of your games, he/she will be given a few minutes to either purchase the game or quit playing."

If you bought him the starter version, you might take a look at ebay or something to buy him a key for the "normal standard" edition via uplay. ;) Problem solved.

I might just do this if there is no other solution, thanks! :)

Usually I just buy Uplay keys for Ubisoft games as they are often significantly cheaper but some Ubisoft games do have Steamworks features such as achievements. In those cases even though I'll still have to use Uplay I prefer to get the game on Steam.

This situation is EXACTLY why they did that. So far there's no workaround for that.

This is why I am so astonished by the sheer stubbornness of people who want everything on Steam, even games that force the use of another account anyway. Same with GTA 5, any Uplay-using game, and so forth. There is zero point, logic, or reason to do that, but people do it anyway.

What you call stubbornness others call simplicity. Sure there is a little ignorance involved from my part, not checking facts beforehand etc but don't confuse it with stubbornness.

Putting the game on another service and forcing yourself to run two services at the same time to access one game is anything but simplicity. You need to have it on Uplay anyway, you just run the Uplay game by running it through Steam first. No matter how I look at it, this makes running one game twice as complicated as having it only on Uplay.
And I am not really talking about just this one game, Uplay games in general do this, and newer Rockstar games too. This is why most of these do not even have Steam keys, because Steam is just a reseller store in this case who take their 30% cut on top of the price you'd pay at the native service. As I said, it is usually more like a question of "I am used to having games on Steam", a simple force of habit that many cannot shake.

The matter of buying it whether it's trading/saving a buck/or preserving all your electronic bills in one place is what I call simplicity.

Batman: Arkham City (GFWL, formerly), GTA 5 (Rockstar Social Club) and Assassin's Creed: Origins (Uplay) are all examples of games requiring other services that also include Steam achievements and while that may not matter to some it does to others.

I usually buy Ubisoft/EA games for Uplay/Origin as they're often available significantly cheaper but as an achievement hunter I prefer to have those titles on Steam as it's much easier to track/display my progress there. There will likely be almost as many other reasons for buying those games on Steam as there are people buying them on Steam.
