I present this paradox to you:
If you are nice or polite, then you have broken a rule. Breaking rules is generally not considered a nice/polite thing to do. Therefore by breaking the rule you are no longer being nice/polite. However, if you are not being nice/polite then you have broken no rules.

There's a presupposition with that, though. "Breaking rules is generally not considered a nice thing to do" is true if the rule in question is a rule that does something constructive or sensible by being followed. If a rule is unnecessary or unjust, it wouldn't be not nice to break it.

Since this rule isn't particularly sensible, it could be said that breaking it isn't necessarily being impolite.

At least, that's the way I see it, and if that doesn't make sense to you then I disagree but respect your opinion entirely.
