Could there be a filter in SG for giveaways on games with the "Nudity" Steam tag? Every time I log on SteamGifts from the office, I have to make sure no one is watching because of the risk of a large banner advertising a "Furry Girls" giveaway or other games like that. I wish I could just filter them out without having to block them one by one, especially at the rate new ones are popping up on Steam (and, by extension, on SG).

We can filter out giveaways for games you cannot participate in (games you already own or DLCs for games you don't own) or those above your Level. Could an option be added to filter out giveaways for adult games?

Should there be a filter in SG for giveaways on games with the "Nudity" Steam tag?

View Results
Yes, I don't want to see those games
No, we don't need such filters
Just don't filter the potatoes

To be more specific, I would support SG having a filter comparable to Steam's "Nudity or Sexual Content" filter for mature content, which basically amounts to detection of any game with either of those two tags, or at minimum "Sexual Content". If SG just hid the thumbnails that would go a long way to the NSFW issue you mention.

I dunno. "Sexual Content" would filter too many games, most of which have no nudity whatsover. Of course, Steam tags aren't the most reliable to begin with

A NSFW marker with blocked or blurred thumbnails would be perfect, assuming it's not to complicated to implement.

So if SG doesn't key off Steam tags, what other options are there that don't require manual screening & reporting of game thunbnails, which could have significant overhead for SG? Isn't that what you are asking for with an NSFW marker?

Well, I like the "filter for mature content" option you pointed out, but that doesn't necessarily block games with the "Sexual Content" tag. It almost seems to have a hidden tag of its own where some games are specifically marked as "Adult Games" by Steam. If that data can be retrieved, then it would certainly do the trick.

Note that I'm not suggesting these be blocked or banned from SG, just that the option to filter them out be there for those that want to use it.

That's an interesting idea. I wonder if cg could implement a filter that included those type of games and have it set to default for anyone who joins the site. If a user wanted to view those type of giveaways all they would have to do is "opt in" from the settings page.

Having those giveaways have a NSFW filter that blurs out the title image on the main page could be another option.

Yeah, but I'm not questionning the existance of these giveaways on SG. If some are giving them and some are participating in these giveaways, it's their prerogative. I just want to have the option of not seeing them.

And this is a proper suggestion too! ^^ I meant see also as in some information about how others feel about it and options. :)

Would be nice to easily find them, otherwise you have to go through tons of useless games with no furry girls and who has time for that.

I don't mind seeing the games, but I can definitely understand why some people would want to block them. I don't know about coding websites, but it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to block games based on a tag. Maybe SG can do it in a way where it only checks once per game and then keeps a permanent mark on the SG server for those games so that it doesn't have to pull the info from Steam every time a user views giveaways.

My vote is a mix of the first 2 options:

"Yes, this filter should exist, though I personally don't need it."

I feel the same and that is why I didn't vote. The poll options are not worded very good.

I think it's pretty obvious that the answers are Yes/No/I Don't Care, the "wording" simply being fluff.

I don't want to vote for yes because I do want to see the games and I don't want to vote for no because I think the filter should exist. I don't agree with either option.

I actually did mark "Yes" in the poll, thinking, like you intended, that the Yes/No/Don't Care was the most important part.

I don't mind seeing 'adult' giveaways but I think it that if possible people should have the option of opting out of mature content.

+1 I was just thinking how I was pretty sure ESGST had steam tag functions and probably filters for them.

But I find that genre-type filtering - anywhere, also on other sites - also filters out things that you might still be interested in so I end up not filtering most of the time. Well, I'd rather secretly go on SG on my phone than on an office computer.

I haven't been able to access this UI despite enabling 2. Giveaways -> 21. Giveaway Filters -> Single Filters OR Multiple Filters (with Genres).

How do you get to or even enable the settings above?

When on the giveaway page click "Expand filters". Also make sure that Hide advanced filters option isn't enabled.

See above and i would advice to use that option because i don't think that cg will program much for a dying site and if he do something it gave much more important stuff to do, that are requested since years...

For me, the problem is not about the sexual content itself. It's one problem to some people, but there is more.

The problem is the general lack of quality standards in Steam catalog. More and more crappy puzzle games, visual novels, platformers and others, lazy and worthless imitation of games. I'm not bashing any game category by the way, I'm talking about games like these SFW links:

Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
Example 4
Example 5

There are plenty of other examples. Most of the similar games are barely disguised pornographic "games". But you can't rely on Steam tags to filter out efficiently by "nudity" without also missing some awesome games like Witcher.

Did anyone ever suggest a system of Steamgifts users-maintained tags? Such as: family friendly, extreme violence, nudity, mature content, pornographic, etc.... And a tag for worthless trash games! Something balanced: as few tags as possible should exist so they mean something, but as many as it takes to make them useful enough.

Personally, I would only filter out "worthless trash games" like those above and their sexual copies, all gone. Like with the "ignore game" button, checking a box or clicking a button while browsing Steamgifts for available GA would let everyone contribute to the system.

Once X quantity of "checks" have been reported on a game, a system like Steamtrades' Vote on Reviews would allow the community to confirm if the game deserves the tag. Access to this final vote could potentially be restricted to some voluntary users to avoid abuse of the system.

I wouldn’t care either way.
What I thought we need though is a Software, Video, VR filter.

I think it would not be a bad idea for people who want it.
I personally usually hide that kind of game. It's still wouldn't be a bad thing to have a filter since it does happen once in while that I'll be on SG and my kids are around. I'd rather they don't see that stuff.
Although the filter on Steam is not the best so I'm not sure using it would be the best solution.

It’s about the risk of a new game being offered which wouldn’t be safe for work to have on screen the first time you see it.

One could argue why you're on Steam/Gifts during work time ;)
None of the small images I've seen are rude, and Steam has a adult page unless you've already allowed adult games - which is your real problem.

I imagine there would be an issue with unintentionally hiding the many games which users have incorrectly labelled as containing sex and nudity just for the lulz...

I don't think we need those filters on SG. If you mind your co-workers seeing those games' images on your screen, don't browse SG while at work. If private use of the internet is allowed at your work place, I don't see any harm in the images and titles of those games displayed on SG's main page. I assume that you and your co-workers are all adults, so they should live when seeing "Furry Girls".

Not sure what there is to gain. The store pages already have the age check. and if you dont even care enough to look a game up you dont know obviously, why would you care about any filters. and if its to not see such a store page work / whatever than simply stop at the age check.

I'm referring to filters on SteamGifts, not the Steam store (which already has Adult Games filters).

I'm not asking to ban such games, just that a filter option be available on SteamGifts for those that want to use it, so that they don't need to systematically block them one by one. They are popping up on Steam at an increasingly fast past, and also here.

SteamGifts is becoming NSFW. While there aren't any explicit images, everyone knows what words like "Furries" and "Hentai" mean. It's embarassing to log in from any public places and have a large banner for a giveway for "Anime Stripper" (or whatever) show up on top of the of the page.
