What would you choose after reading the verdict: Thumbs up or thumbs down?
Negative comments? Not sure I get what you mean. I just want to know what you would choose as a rating on Steam if you'd written those three (half) sentences.

The text in quotes is an actual Steam review. If you would post that review, would you thumb it up or down?

"omg I got a free game from orly and now I have to write a review to get more free games, I'm so pissed so I'm leaving a negative review"
These are the worst.

Steam reviews can be very good, but you have to dig through a lot of stuff to find them. Like @Mullins said, the "funny" ones of one or two lines are pretty dated by now, most low effort. And even worse are the ones that says "best game ever", or "worst game I've seen my entire life" and have 0.1 hours played. Like seriously, with that much time into the game you can't tell much.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/357480/ just read the positve comments!

I'm sometimes still amazed that people write two to three lines of complains and still give that 'review' a thumbs up (like in this case...). Maybe Steam shouldn't default to the thumbs up and instead at least have a neutral option for reviews. One can dream...

I only go for positivity
or when it is in alpha/beta I give constructive feedback.
I wish everyone could do that. I've betatested games where I was so annoyed with the gameplay I almost punch through my screen. Nontheless I stick to being polite and it's much more appreciated.

That's why I almost never read positive reviews - they are just sweet nonsense for the most part.
There are tons of negative reviews that are highly rated, politeness/rudeness are absolutely unrelated to reviewing... positivity for the sake of it makes reviews nonsensial!
It's like you are afraid of making enemies, but the truth is everybody doesn't give a damn about your personality as a reviewer, they mostly seek for some bits of experience which could help them not to waste their time on something they probably won't like, so you MUST be informative (comparison, explaining ingame mechanics in detail), not polite!)))

With positivity I mean.
"Action x does not work as intended, here are my experiences and suggestions"
rather then
"OHMGOD LOL GAME IS LAME BUG BUG BUG"
A little respect and decency gets you a long way. Since I program myself, I know what they're looking for and it's not the negative nancies.

What would you expect as the (limited) Steam rating? Yay or nay?
