So I just played Bioshock Remastered without an issue, and really wanted to get the whole collection. (I'm only missing the second game, Minerva's den, and burial at sea).
I'm hesitant because from the reviews it seems like it's more of a crash simulator.

I'm not really asking if the collection is worth it. I'm more asking, did Bioshock 2 remaster work for you or were you constanly bombarded with crashes and bugs?

Edit: Thank you for the answers everyone. Sounds like a lot of people experienced problems. I think I'm going to grab it today anyway because its a game series that's worth the risk :). Here is a tiny giveaway to say thanks!

Never played/Don't like them

I bought the whole collection while being wary of the abundance of reviews complaining about crashes. Surprisingly, the experience has been rather smooth for me (for all 3 games) with infrequent problems.

Well, if the first one worked, you probably won't have issues with the second one either. For me Bioshock Remastered was indeed, a massive crash fest that made it unplayable (like, literally crashing 5 seconds after loading the save - constantly)

I thought so too but a few reviews said the first worked for them but the second didn't. It's sad they don't have the games patched up.

Not one single crash or bug. Worked perfectly fine, even with SweetFX enabled.

Both remastered games do not work for me. Frequent crashes and safe files get corrupted when I save manually or when the game autosaves.

While I did have issues with both of the Remastered versions, I have to say that BioShock 2 treated me better than the first one.
In BioShock I had the endlessly infuriating "might randomly crash when you save and might then delete your save files" sort of crashing, and had to play same parts over and over just because of this. In BioShock 2 I still had crashes, starting out I had the "pressing space in loading screen will make it crash" one, but the fix offered for it took care of it. After that it only crashed during some fights when there were lots of enemies, but not when saving so it was a much smoother ride compared to BioShock.

Fingers crossed that BioShock 2 won't give you any trouble!

Currently going through BS2 now, and it has seemed to crash more than BS1 did. On the advice of a Steam thread I changed a texture setting in a config file and turned off the Steam overlay and it has not crashed since, hopefully that continues.

the problem is patched with third party dll injection (of what i remember) and was caused by the xbox controller (or maybe not).

once i used the patch, i never crashed again but once again it make aw while so i don,t remember what was making the crash (i think it is more related to sound then controller ) but it is totally patch-able with a third party and it totally worth looking for it

edit : also it depend of your hardware, if if have certain brand , you get way more crash than other but again, you just need the add-on

Will using that third-party fix cause any problems with regards to the Achievements?

Bioshock crashed constantly, while Bioshock Remastered ran like smooth butter. Never understood all the hate towards the remastered versions.

I ran into the crash issues, but I still loved the game. I was able to 100% it (the Achievements regarding the camera were buggy for me at first, but they unlocked in the end...thank goodness!). One of my favourite games of all time and that twist...wow!!.:)

I had a few issues in Bioshock: Remastered (mainly with the odd crash when I was saving which was quite irritating, so I had to save pretty much every 5 minutes at least! It also caused me to have to reboot my computer!). I loved the game, though.

As for Bioshock 2: Remastered, I'm afraid I can't help you. I haven't played it (heck, I haven't played the vanilla version either).

At all? Obviously 1 was the best, but infinite was still better than 2.

i didn't like it. the only good thing was the story, game was terrible for me.
two guns, maps are super small, no room for exploration and you're constantly followed by that peasant elizabeth throwing coins at you.

I'll try not to feel insulted about your wrong opinion ;P

The first game is very good though. I can't wait to try the sequel even if I've heard some bad things.

BS2 vanilla was a crash fest for me, I have no idea how the remastered is.
anyway you forgot the "all of them" option u.u

I played through the second remastered game a while ago and can't say that it crashed often. Really can't remember that it crashed at all, but that might be just my memory. For sure it didn't annoy me (and I get easily annoyed by crashing games ;))

I didn't have any problem with crashes with either the normal or remastered versions. Though Bioshock 2 did have really really bad framerates for me.

Base game crashed like hell for me but strangely enough Minerva's Den didint crash a single time event thought it's same game.. So my advice if you are going to try play Bioshock 2 Remastered - save every 10 steps.

I can't really speak for BS2 remastered, but I had 5-6 crashes in BS remastered with 58 hrs of gameplay. Not much of an issue I think. Will try out BS2 remastered once I've completed BS.

BioShock 2 Remastered crashed frequently on me at the halfway point. Very frustrating to deal with while also streaming it. Next time I'm just gonna play the original.

Never played the remastered versions, but let me write what I think.

I voted for bioshock for being my first 'bioshock' game (counting system shock, maybe?). Anyway, I think it has aged badly but it's a good game. Bioshock 2 is overall better but the it has some flaws (You, i mean, the character). Still is underrated

Minerva's Den is amazing and I hope they made the story from it.

Infinite is a casualized stupid overrated game full of corridors and linear stuff, dialogues stolen from bioshock 2 and one stupid ending praised by teenagers. Yeah, I enjoyed it but I hate the fanbase.

Still need to play the rapture DLCs

I think the first game aged pretty well imo. I had a friend play it for the first time recently and the plot twist wasn't as shocking as it would have been back then, but they still really loved it. I'm glad to hear you like the second one. I've only heard bad things about it. I'm not sure how playing a big daddy could be the worst thing about the game, but a lot of people agree that it wasn't as exciting as it should have been.

I really love Infinite but that's probably due to the fact that I have never interacted or read anything on the fanbase.

It's because you are only a big daddy because they tell you. I mean, I honestly thing bioshock 2 shouldn't have plasmids. They are better implemented than in infinite, however it makes no sense. You are a big daddy yet you seem to play with the same character than the first one. Usually it doesn't feel like a Big Daddy, that's what I meant.

Yeah that's a bummer. Playing a big daddy is such a good idea but throwing plasmids in there makes it pretty pointless.

you're an alpha-series big daddy in bioshock 2, the first prototypes. they were used in fontain futuristics plasmid experiments so they have access to abilities.

the game explains very well what's going on but most people miss it and assume it's bad writing.

Thanks everyone so far. I've read all the messages and it seems pretty mixed (just like the reviews.) I think I'm going to buy it and try it out. It's such a good series I think it's worth the risk.

Both remastered editions ran perfectly for me. Played them back to back without an issue.
Still two of my favorite games, too. Definitely grab up those DLC - I enjoyed them quite a bit.

The original B2 gave me a lot of problems towards the end. Save A LOT so if the remastered has the same issues, you wont have to backtrack or re-do so much. But agreed, Bioshock is worth the risk XD
