Oh, here is the reason.

EA Access will be making its way to Steam. EA Access is the first and only gaming subscription service available on Steam

Wonder how well this works? Will some games be exclusive to the EA Access owners only and not available thro the normal store front?
Not interested in a subscription TBH

:sob:

My basic subscription run out May this year, and I had no reason to pay for it again. But I'd be more tempted to part with my virtual wallet funds than my paypal moneh :D

Edit: But it will mean that games available "for-price" on Steam will be at the same time available "for free" to owners of EA Access on Origin. So say people can buy Slay the Spire on Steam to have keep it forever, or pay on Origin for subscription that will give them this game for "free" along dozens of other titles.

It will be interesting to see how it will develop.

Just adding a little guess here:

What is coming to Steam is EA Access (the same one that is for XB & recently PS) that has only EA published/developed titles.
Origin Access (Basic or Premier) has like double of EA titles in 3rd party titles like Beholder1&2, Frostpunk, Trine1&2, Darksiders series ...etc,it would be crazy stupid of those little titles devs to miss their revenue and make them also available through EA Access on Steam.

I too have a year of Basic and played most of those 3rd party titles for the sake of achievement hunting, most of those indie gems I still added to my Steam wishlist afterwards and looking forward to owning and replaying them on Steam.

Unfortunately no.

Lastly, players will not be able to transfer your Origin games to Steam (or vise versa). However, the publisher is working on enabling cross-play between the Origin and Steam versions.

They want you to buy them again, it's EA we are talking about here.

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required.
Requires 3rd-Party Account: EA Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account)

Yeah, right? Seen the game on Steam's front page, went to the product details, looked for additional DRM, seen this and thought that even if I wanted this game like badly I'd probably be better off getting it for Origin with only layer of DRM.

Depends on how much Steam running with Uplay/Origin can affect the performance for you.
Personally if I could afford it I would go with Steam

I own GR Wildlands on Uplay and the year 2 updates each was 3 times bigger than their download size for Steam version (ex: a major update would be about 6GB for Steam version, it would be about 18GB for Uplay honestly no exaggeration here)

Origin has issues when downloading (unstable speed and some times the dl would be stuck as 0 B/s pause and resume won't help either)
Just a week ago Anthem had a Halloween big update ~7GB tried to download it every couple of mins dl would freeze and gives me an error I got so frustrated I deleted the game after suffer for 2 hrs... their forums also full with complaints about Origin in general.

Okay, so you'd prefer Steam because you can download the game through Steam? Fair enough. I would advise to check very carefully that the whole download is handled by Steam in that case, because I've had it with some games and Uplay (Anno 2070 namely) that Steam just delivered an outdated version of Uplay and the whole download was handled directly by the game update manager (which uses Uplay servers).
As for your download trouble with Origin, this might be a regional thing. For example, when installing Mass Effect Andromeda, I had stable 55MB per sec (when I usually only get around 45MB with Steam) - along with the option to run and play the game with only 25% complete (while the rest downloads in the background). A pretty nice feature that Steam doesn't even have - not really necessary on a connection where the whole download only takes like 20 minutes anyway, but still nice.

I can't find the PC version unless physical, Which will cost me a fortune to get it shipped here in Egypt and they may even refuse it unless I'm a big reseller. I might be wrong tho. I will double-check later.

Cause EA makes LOADS from MTX, biggest example is FIFA Ultimate Team in every FIFA title in the last decade.
They want to reach the millions of Steam users to potentially increase that MTX revenue.

Hmm. I wonder if this is EA's way of getting around Valve's massive sale's share since nearly all PC gamers refuse to give up Steam for Origin? If it is, then I'm sure other other publishers having subscription services (I'm looking at you Bethesda and Ubisoft) will follow suit.

Nice! So far Fallen Order has been looking exactly like what I'd expect from a modern Star Wars game, a single player 3rd person action adventure title, no multiplayer in sight. Sadly it seem way too expensive for me right now so I'll have to wait a couple of years for the price to drop to a more reasonable level, or for the game to show up on Origin/EA access, definitely worth a month's subscription just for that one.
About EA access showing up on Steam, not sure TBH. I doubt it'll have a library as large as its Origin counterpart, tho the option to pay with Steam's wallet is definitely a pro.

I'm pretty happy about this although I don't really get how they're going to have Origin Access on Steam? (I wonder if Steam is using that to test subscription based services...)

EA has good games and their sales suck so maybe we'll get good discounts off some of the games (and DLC that are ridiculously priced) from resellers now.

Anyhoo, good news.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yea me too, is there going to be a special tab for it in the library or something??
And I too think that it's Steam way of testing subscriptions, maybe we will see Game pass there too.

Don't know about the resellers part but haveing 2 way/codes to obtain the same game but on 2 different platforms will be confusing.

Honestly I don't know how that would work with Steam. All the subscription platforms so far have been studio/dev/publisher exclusive so they don't need to redistribute the money they make. Steam is like a game supermarket. If they make money monthly, how are the devs going to get money for their games?

Don't know about the resellers part but haveing 2 way/codes to obtain the same game but on 2 different platforms will be confusing.

Pretty much like with the Ubi games that are on Steam. Except with less confusion about the Gold/Ultimate/Season Pass/Silver/GOTY editions lol

As far as I think I know, it would be like the In-app purchases thing.
Steam takes 30% off every month/year subscription the user purchases.

As for the devs and subscription services, I read that Microsoft pays devs for every subscriber who downloaded their games,
Google and Apple on the other hand pay devs for how many hours they spend playing their games while you're subscribing.

Again I have read those somewhere so I'm not entirely sure about them, but they kinda make sense.
Oh, I almost forgot. EA Access is already on PS and Xbox, so I would like to hear some PS and Xbox players on it.
