We have nearly 90,000 uncategorized discussions, and fewer than 90,000 support users, so we're looking for a little help. The below page pulls a random discussion that's uncategorized, and a list of available categories. By clicking on a category, you're voting to move that discussion to the category you selected. After you vote, another random discussion will appear to repeat the process. Once we have a large enough sample size, we'll move the uncategorized discussions to the categories where they received the highest number of votes. Thanks for helping us out!

If you have any questions about categories, or if you feel we're missing a category that might be useful, let us know.

http://www.steamgifts.com/tools/categorize-discussions

Edit: To clarify a bit, the General category should be used for SteamGifts and Steam related discussions (How do I get points?, Fortix Giveaway, Should I Buy Portal?, Is Steam Down?, etc) and Off-Topic for everything unrelated.

I did 100.
But I'm not 100% sure whether I did it right, questions regarding Steam games went in General, on other platforms went to Off-Topic.
I put Steam Coupon giveaway threads in General, but they could be in Deals or Off-topic.

Trading and begging threads I marked as No valid category.

Helped categorize 50. Same as Avantyr, I put Steam Coupon giveaway threads in General, because they're Steam related, right?

I thought it was, at a glance, asking for more possible categories to be added. I voted on 10.

I would add a category for private GAs.

i just mark those under general.

but trading threads like avantyr said i saw popup a lot and don't really fit anywhere (besides maybe deals)

I put misplaced trade threads under "Off-Topic", it's the only fitting category among the current ones.
"Spam" would be even more fitting.

yeah that works. it shouldn't matter all that much, stuff we're sorting will likely never get looked at again anyways xD

I think we need a category that states it should have been in the trades section

Voted to categorize 50+ discussions... that are all 2-3 years old. But I just feel this is pointless.
Why oldest threads are categorized in priority, whereas they have the least chance of being read again and the least impact on latest shown thread ?
Or maybe, most of uncategorized threads are old ?

If you make a new thread now, you are required to put up a category. It's not possible to not choose a category. So yeah, all the threads that still need categorizing are all threads from before this was implemented. So all old threads.

Ok I dont know if my method would be useful but if yes, it could be applied in a more accurate way.

I (partially) check the uncategorized discussion an dmost of them are related to steam news and steam games. So I think that a useful category would be STEAM RELATED DISCUSSION (well the name I dont really know but this is the basic idea).

Anyway, I didnt analyse all entries of course but if my proposal work one can better and carefully check the uncategorized discussions to retrieve categories from data (let's say)

Hope this help! ^^

You are indeed. On the bright side, if you follow your notifications you may have first dibs on this:

Game Fre‎e Key
Sinless + OST https://www.indiegala.com/game?game_id=c583402b908b11e6b16ab5ec5a9018e0
  • If you to‎ok the key, please (1) activate it on your ac‎count, and (2) reply to let me know so that I can remove the link (otherwise your email ad‎dres‎s will remain visible).
  • Please don't take the key if you already own the game or are not interested in it.

It seems we have people here who are willing to invest the effort to use disposable email addresses (580dc49966d7a@mailbox92.biz in this case), but it's too much for them to say "I used this key, thank you". Sad.

I doubt it. There aren't many indiegala links in forums to justify the efforts to set up one.

I tried, finished up season one of Masters of None and even tried watching a boring movie. Eyes wide open. Feel like doing laps around the house. I'm so restless for some reason. I feel like I could run to the store and back. :D

Just saw this now. Was unaware of the effort.

At this rate it won't ever be done- before reaching the end will always be more.

UNCATEGORIZED SHOULD BE KILLED.

On discussion creation a pop-up (so to say) should appear where you have to choose one category with no category pre-selected.
The topic only being creatable (button allowed) upon choosing one.

If we want to do it even better it would be a 2 or 3 collumm of categories radioboxes (this helps with clarity and lessening perceived impression of one being more then another). Just some basic ui good practice.

And then...
...A new rule:

Every time support needs to move a discussion for another category due to clearly wrong choosing by the topic creator the creator will lose 1 cv (level progress) - So help our comunity by choosing correctly. Topics that need moving because of change in direction over the course of the discussion do not apply and will not incur in any reduction.

Then that rule appears as warning above or bellow the category choosing (below only if the button to finish is below).

I could help with ui and or coding if needed.

This would be way WAY better as a final measure so the problem don't grow ever again.

I think you misunderstood, there is no longer a "Uncategorized" category. When you create a discussion, you will have to choose between one of the seven categories.

So, if we keep at categorizing the discussions we will eventually get to the end. Might take us a decade, but it will end :D

Oh now i get it. I tought the blank default option creating a topic (that i never chose) would be the uncategorized.

A decade indeed... but i will help
