Popped up one of my topics, I went and changed it myself. :P

I have several hundred threads. That sounds a lot like work.

80% of all threads are off-topic anyways, so it's not too hard of a task.

We need a trashcan category to put all those "My CV won't go past 30" threads. :P

Very nice idea. Better than trying to get people to do this themselves. (We still got about 1000 of them categorized correctly when the new site launched)

Many times people ask help for something so it would be nice to have a "Help" Category.

We considered this earlier, but the debate was whether or not people would start posting support questions there, asking for giveaways to be deleted, new winners, reporting users, etc. If that happened, the category would just be filled with comments referring users to the FAQ, or support. That's why we decided against it, so if you see any questions about the site, you can move them to the General category.

You could always put some sort of topic description on it at the top for each section, specifically saying what each section is for. Have it between the spot where it says
Discussions > Announcements
and (Put description here at the top, in bold)
Summary Comments Last Post
For the help section it could say....
"Help section. A place for the users to help each other with issues they might have. Any posts that should be reported to support will be automatically closed (or ignored) with no reply from support. This includes but is not limited to requests for giveaway deletions, requests for more giveaway slots, reroll requests, reporting users and so on."
At the very least you could try it for a month or 2. If you do actually get far more actual support type questions in there, then they could all just be moved to general or off topic and the help section removed. A little annoying but who knows, the user base might surprise you.... or just prove you right, in which case you can say "we tried that, it didn't work". :)

+1
It would really reduce the clutter in the forum if there was a "Help Me!" or "Community Assistance" category. You could probably avoid Support questions if you just gave it the right name. "Peer Counseling" is a bit too tongue-in-cheek.... P
How about "Ask the Community" or "Community Assistance?"

I suggested that a while back, but thought against it cause it would just descend into people calling out and just asking the same stuff that's in the FAQ all the time.
However now I am edging towards it again. Frankly if they can figure out how to sign up for a giveaway they can damn well take time to read some simple rules. If not? Then it'll probably descend into a massive trap for users to be suspended.

As Khalaq said it requires a proper naming not just "Help". Also, people already ask about rerolls and support related stuff on the forums, yeah it might increase the number but with the proper set up it might not.
For example when creating the thread it could have a tooltip saying that the "Help" category doesnt replaces Support Tickets. that means that if you want rerolls/reports/etc you have to make a Support ticket. or something like that.
And I think its about time to make newcommers to finally read the FAQ. I mean, FORCE them to read the FAQ. I dont know, maybe the FAQ quiz that some people suggested is a good idea after all.

Awesome. Having a day where I feel like doing nothing so this will keep me occupied with mindless work...
EDIT: Not sure where user giveaway threads belong... like threads where people are hosting their birthday GAs or are dropping keys, etc...

Very nice idea ^^
What's the difference between General and Off-Topic?

That should be fixed now, and you should only see discussions you haven't previously voted on.

We have nearly 90,000 uncategorized discussions, and fewer than 90,000 support users, so we're looking for a little help. The below page pulls a random discussion that's uncategorized, and a list of available categories. By clicking on a category, you're voting to move that discussion to the category you selected. After you vote, another random discussion will appear to repeat the process. Once we have a large enough sample size, we'll move the uncategorized discussions to the categories where they received the highest number of votes. Thanks for helping us out!
If you have any questions about categories, or if you feel we're missing a category that might be useful, let us know.

Edit: To clarify a bit, the General category should be used for SteamGifts and Steam related discussions (How do I get points?, Fortix Giveaway, Should I Buy Portal?, Is Steam Down?, etc) and Off-Topic for everything unrelated.
