The way Parsedown is configured in this forum, images always appear at the bottom of posts and are collapsed behind a "View attached image" link. This works fine in many cases, but is counterproductive for more complex posts (e.g. guides with screenshots illustrating the text, or posts about visual subjects). How about allowing inline images to be used? It is supported by Parsedown.

Would you like this site to support inline images?

Yes, instead of the current method. Users should just put images where they want within posts, like in other forums. No need to hide at the bottom.
Yes, but I want both options. Let users decide if they want images collapsed at the bottom of posts or inline
No. Keep things exactly as they are. I'm fine clicking every image to see it, and I don't mind if all images are at the bottom of posts
Can you remind me what Dan Quayle has to say about this?

Bump. That'd be nice, if having something like this would be easy to implement. I liked gifs more in SGv1, where they appeared after hovering over a mouse in extra "window".

I'm not sure if supporting both method is an option, but apparently inline images are inherently supported by Parsedown, so it's not something that would need to be implemented specifically for this site.

+1 for "put image where it is".

I'm not sure why you made "I want both" an option. Implementing this feature would not disable old way of putting things, user would just need to put images at the bottom of the post. And all images being hidden by default should be kept mandatory.

Most web forums don't hide images, so I don't see why it's so obvious this odd behavior must be kept mandatory. Especially for illustrated guides and other complex posts, with visuals that illustrate the content, it makes way more sense to make images visible by default.

Try loading a thread with literally hundreds of gifs...

And trust me that I'm getting really annoyed when I enter some thread where somebody decided to post hundred of GIFs or other images.

The way it's now on SG is excellent, because if I'm interested, I'll click the link to see mentioned content, but when I'm not, I can read text in peace without getting disrupted.

Although I don't personally see this issue in the forums I frequent, I can understand your concern. There's at least one thread here which would become difficult to use if all images were expanded (eeev's selfie thread).

The problem is that keeping images always collapsed as they are makes it impossible to write illustrated guides that are as easy and inviting to follow as guides posted anywhere else on the web. One way to solve this need without the risk you're describing is to allow images in the OP of threads and giveaways to be expanded by default, and keep replies as they are today.

Not having option for massive image spam is good, keeps forum more readable.

I thought the point of having image spoilers where that those who want to see them can click on the link, and to avoid spam. I think it is perfectly fine at least, and i would vote a strong "NO" to any change.

You seem to only be against expanding images by default, so why do you vote against any change? What's wrong with having images appear collapsed at their correct place instead of the bottom?

Good point, having an option for both never occured to me for some reason (i blame me feeling a bit sick and not "on top of my game", so to speak, lol).

...which makes me realize i didn't even read all the poll answers fully, so i guess i learned something else too. Hm.

Yirg, you mix two issues, which is why you get a response like Swedra's. Personally I'm for the ability to place images anywhere in the message, but I think that the option of keeping them hidden by default is an important one.

I agree with ET3D :) Let us put the images wherever we want but still make it clickable to collapse :)

Although I think the images/gifs still load, even if they are hidden. I sometimes use verrrry slow connection and when I open threads like You're not alone it takes ages to load. When I click on an image, I see they're not loaded yet, so I assume the page loads all of them when it is opened and not when we collapse the image.

Thank you very much :) I love seeing funny pics/gifs but when I come back to a thread for new comments I don't want the already-seen gifs to load again.

Great job :)

Yeah, I spent some time writing cool posts only to see them ruined after posting because the images all sunk to the bottom. Not cool, man.

Couldn't agree more.

I wanted to have a little collage of pictures from a recent forum discussion about what people collect, and was so disappointed that you can't format pictures in line with the description.

Please, PLEASE include a fix 💋
