"Greetings!

We'll be performing routine maintenance on some of the Steam servers on Tuesday October 1, 2012 around 16:00 PDT (GMT-0700).

Chat, game lobbies, and the community web site will be affected for the duration of this maintenance. Some content downloads may be briefly interrupted. Game play should generally not be interrupted but may be impacted for some multi-player titles.

We'll also be performing routine network maintenance on Tuesday October 1, 2012 at 21:00 PDT (GMT-0700). The Steam store and community web sites will be unavailable for approximately 15 minutes at this time, but other services will be unaffected."
From Steam's Facebook, yesterday. However, Tuesday October 1 doesn't exist...
Edit: doesn't matter now :D

It was an announcement, posted about 23 hours ago. It was supposed to be "Tuesday, October 2," (or Oct 3 for you) but Steam made a typo.

Entirely incorrect. Ignoring the "Tuesday 1st" part you mentioned, that maintenance is scheduled at GMT 0700, and the time in GMT at the moment is 2350. This maintenance aint really due for another 7 hours.

I thought it was that at first too when I seen them twat it, but I noticed the GMT time just didn't add up at all. Perhaps this is the reason they actually need to perform the maintenance?
