Whenever I see a reference to how Popeye (or any character with a peculiar accent/way of speaking) or worse, actually see a clip, my brain suffers a little shortcut. Let's just say that modisms and differences in dialects don't translate when dubbing. One of the reasons why I started to watch most stuff in subs around 10 years ago.
