Seasonal Badge - buy new levels, 1000 points each. This levels up your profile a bit.
Each time you upgrade the game badge you'll get an extra 100XP, as well as upgrading the image and title of the badge.

This is a new option to extend your showcases like Rarest Achievement, Game Collector etc.

You could always just go on a rewarding spree. Just look through your Steam friends' profiles and reward whatever you like with whatever you want. That's pleasant to both sides and therefore not entirely useless.

I am not sure but can't you buy BG etc with the points? Is it not possible to sell them in the market afterward?

Nope. Backgrounds and emoticons you buy in the point shop are neither tradeable nor marketable, they are bound to the account.

It's basically a system to get you to invest even more into the 'meta' aspect of Steam. The first time these wonderful 'points' came along I got all the 30 level of epeen and now... I got the showcase upgrades and gave people 'awards' because... yeah. I feel like Steam is in a downward spiral thinking that trinkets are what people want. Remember when Steam gave you a game for free? Yeah, I hardly remember those days either.

It might be possible that Steam could release a $5 coupon that you have to buy with points like in previous events so it's worth holding onto some points just in case. Or you can try selling awards for keys etc.

I don't care for stickers or backgrounds, I just want to play games. Is there any way to use the steam points for something useful?
If it involves trading some kind of action, such as me spending points on someone else in exchange for keys/cards/epeen, I'm all for it.
