Ok so I have been shopping for a new laptop and decided on an MSI GS73VR. I am currently outside of the USA (and will be for quite some time) and the vendor will not ship the laptop to my APO AE mailing address.

Has anyone ever used a package forwarding site like amforward.com or myus.com or whatever else is available? I have read some really strange reviews ranging from perfect 5 stars to 1 stars 'they stole my packages' and I really don't want to have my new laptop stolen by some fraudulent company.

If you have used a service like this in the past and can recommend one, please let me know!

Once via MyUS, worked and I had nothing to complain about except the fucking abnormal costs, but meh... comes with the territory ;x.

I actually was about to sign up there, and then they wanted a $10 processing fee to setup my free account.... they also had a string of recent terrible 1 star reviews. Were you concerned with possible theft of your item when you shipped it? Should I be?

Hard to say since it was a one time thing, but we also had to pay the 10 bucks... I remember we decided to use them because of their age and some recommendation of another friend who had to deal with their customer support and one might wonder - whom had nothing to complain about the latter.
I'm kinda a paranoid, so I'm always concerned about theft but they delivered on time and the package was fully intact, was about 1 or 2 years ago so I can't comment on any recent negative reviews, sry... sent from USA to Europe FYI.

I will say this, the myus site is pretty thorough, its also pretty darn professional... so I am leaning towards using them as it is already. I just would hate to lose a new laptop - it would make me cry!

Who wouldn't, I'd even go further and consider making someone pay if something like that'd ever happen to me ;D. Whatever you decide on, fingers crossed and good luck :>.

Yeah, but not exactly for the reason you would think. xD I only used it in order to use an ebay gift card. :P

Yeah, but it's a famous site, so I guess you should check it out.

You may have already considered this...but could you have it shipped to someone you trust in the states, and then that person could send it to you? (With you paying them the shipping fee, of course).

I have no experience with package forwarding sites, sorry.

I would normally ask my family to do it, but they are busy with a funeral and I don't want to wait too long to pull the trigger on this laptop.

There's quite a few US based SGers...would you be able to trust one of them? Maybe someone on the moderation team, even. I know that SleepyCat used to help with Russian purchases.

The issue with APO AE addresses is that they are only served by the USPS and only accept packages that are dropped off at the physical post office. So it raises the bar a little higher to trouble other people - although thankfully the USPS has a minimal shipping charge for the armed forces... so there is that!

That's not that much trouble. All they need is to receive the package, cross out their information and write your address, and then travel to the post office and pay shipping. I wish I could help you

Good luck with that. Many places, (including our co) will NOT ship to a freight forward place. I have NEVER seen a legitimate order use one of them. Be prepared to be marked as a fraudster by whoever your ordering from. And then for that to be seen by anyone else who uses the same fraud protection software.

Go with another vendor instead of using a freight forwarder.. Most places will have no issues shipping to an APO AE address.

Sorry to sound so harsh. Just thought you should know that this is something you need to consider.

That does look like a very nice laptop. Hopefully it all works out for you.

unfortunately the amazon policy is that they will not ship computers to an apo address... I don't know why that is, but it is. I suppose I could continue the search on newegg or a specific retailer but I have a feeling it has something to do with the lithium ion battery :(

I'm surprised Amazon has that policy. I was not aware of that. I wonder why.

I found this.
Amazon Help.

They list computers as not shipping. Thats to bad.
edit. ..... and you knew that... Just a link showing what your already aware of.

It is actually quite bullshit really, especially since the IATA shipping regulations on lithium ion batteries was severely loosened for 2017... I actually work in logistics which makes this that much more frustrating :(

Used Shipito twice back on '14, was the best value, there might be better alternatives today.

  1. That's an awesome laptop =D have a ge62mvr myself
  2. I mean I'd buy the laptop and have it sent to your family and just wait until they can send if that's possible, I mean I never used any of those services but my cousin did which ended poorly. Package was never received. Oh and my sister also used that service, I mean yeah it was a one of those ceramic rugs but when she finally did get it was smashed.

I mean these things are sort of a crapshoot, do you want to spend that much money on something and it A) never arrives, or it arrives and it's broken. Or third option you get it in perfect condition.
