Just noticed a giveaway in which the submitter said that if the winner spams saying "thanks" or some random stuff, he is gonna reroll. Not sure if he's joking or not, but I'm just curious if this is a valid reason for rerolling. Any ideas?

I don't think so. That'd be ridiculous.

Oh right, because it is totally allowed to reroll the winner just because they said 'Thanks' >.>

Only if the giveaway is private and he asked the support.

I said "if he wasn't joking", but still, the question was more or less general.

In a public GA, no. Private, yes. Group, depends.

Only if it has been approved by support.

If it's a private giveaway and a moderator approved it, then yes. If it's a public giveaway, no.

Special rules only apply if the creator contacts a mod and gets approval for a rule. And a rule as asinine as that would never get approved.

Nope.

If that rule has been approved by a mod, he could.
not sure if such a rule would be approved though.

I generally would like to know how rerolls work. I can't remember, is there a reroll button? I think there is, so what happens if you press it? Will support decide whether it's ok to reroll or will it happen automatically? And if support decides to reroll (or if it happens automatically), will the original winner know that he won a gift that was rerolled (in case he didn't see it before the reroll happened)?

In the same place where you can see the winner's registered e-mail, you can select 'request a new winner.' This will allow you to fill out a form that automatically generates a special support ticket for us that shows the giveaway, winner, and your reason. It also has an interface that allows us to approve or deny it once we've looked at it and possibly asked you for further information if necessary and decided whether or not it's a valid request.

And no, there's nothing to indicate to the previous winner that it was re-rolled if they didn't see it beforehand.

If support would give him a green light before GA, yes he can.
Not on public GAs, through.
For example, this could be final step in some puzzle...

They can do it on a public GA with permission. It's private and group ones that don't require the okay.

Nope. Private and group giveaways can have special rules with our prior approval, excluding giveaways for very large and/or public groups, such as the SteamGifts official group. Public giveaways may never have special rules. This is a measure of practicality. In public giveaways, or in a group with tens of thousands of members or which anyone can join, which are poorly moderated or even unable to be well-moderated, most giveaway entrants won't even have bothered to look at the description, let alone complied with any special rules, and it could take days, weeks, maybe months of re-rolls to get a valid winner. The giveaway creators tend to find this as frustrating as we do, maybe moreso, so we're sparing everyone a huge hassle in the long run.
