both games and all packages are discounted -65%

Thing is, steam search and steamdb show only -50%, but the store page clearly shows -65%
So there's an error in one of these places, hard to tell which one...
I think I'll go for FH5 Premium edition.

[edit] Confirmed in the comments the deeper discount is for FH4 owners.

You mean at the store page as well? Maybe it's some hidden discount for example for FH4 owners?
Literally every price aggregator only shows -50%, but my eyes see -65%...

Interestingly, after buying, Premium Edition now only shows -50%, screenshot:

Thanks. It's the only plausible explanation given that some people see -50% and some -65%.
BTW after buying FH5 I can still see -65% on Motorsport, but can't buy the FH5+FM bundle any more (only as a gift and with a lower discount). I don't think I'm missing much, though, as per my understanding FM has all the worst parts of FH (racing) without all the best parts (free roaming and challenges). :D

treasure map and all car packs released after game were never part of any editions, but it includes both dlc with new areas

Those DLCs came much later after the game being released. You can't expect DLC content for a game that was not mentioned at release, to be included with the premium edition, which was released at launch. This is just a case of doing bad research before buying. Yes, things could be explained better in the store page but corporations aren't going to make things easier on you.

There are games out there that have more than 1 season pass, the idea is the first season pass being included in the premium package, the stuff you get after is additional content. This game is no different, the only difference is that they do not make a 2nd season pass, they release standlone car packs, which are more expensive than the previous DLC. Sometimes the car packs can have cars of your interest, but is it really worth buying a car pack for 5-10 bucks just to get 1 car? When the game has like 900 cars already, 800+ of which are accessible with the premium edition.

The good thing here is that it is all car packs, you can live without them. You don't really need those cars to play and enjoy the game. You already have a crap ton of cars in the game to mess around with. If those DLC packs were map expansions or the likes, then it would be bad for the consumer. Playable areas are more important than having extra cars to mess around with. In this game you have the freedom of modding/tuning cars to absurd lengths, you can make them drift cars, circuit cars, sprint cars, rally/mud cars, hill climb cars, road cars, snow/ice cars, drag cars, minigame cars, random tunes that can break the game. You can grab an old VW beetle and turn it into a sprint monster to compete with brand new exotic cars, or an old fiat 500 and turn it into a small circuit agile beast.

The treasure map is never included in the premium edition, it is an alternative purchase for people not wanting to explore all the secrets in the game. Essentially this is paying to cheat by revealing almost everything in the map. Question here is, would you really want to cut short your exploration? The idea of the game is to free roam the map, explore all the roads, every corner, every mountain and so on, find the stuff that is hidden and try to unlock them. This dlc reveals all the bonus boards and barn finds. Barn finds have an intended mechanic in the game where they show you an area and you have to drive around to find the barn, if you had this dlc included, you would be skipping this mechanic automatically as the barn is instantly pinned on your map the moment you unlock it via game progression. This in the end would ruin the experience to players.

That is really scummy, Microsoft doesn't need to do stuff like this.

People need to read things better before buying.

The thing here is that the premium package sells the game with all the season pass, and the additional addons that existed at the time. After all of that stuff is released, they continued to release dlc as standalone, which is usually car packs. You aren't missing out on the game by not having all the packs, these packs are more for people that play the game 24/7 and want to mess around with everything there is in the game, while having all the cars in the game in the garage.

What Microsoft is doing here is nothing new to the gaming industry. Games that follow this path of constantly releasing dlc content to keep the game alive have this issue in the long run. Where the premium/ultimate edition of the game, does not include all the DLC content, because the time span of DLC content being released is usually longer than 2 years, when a game releases, the DLC content included in your package is meant to be released, in most cases, in the first 2 years of the game being released.

If people buy premium editions without doing research nowadays, then you will be facing this situation more times down the road. This is no different than buying something expensive online, without checking multiple stores before doing so.

It's not "season pass", it's called "car pass", which implies getting all cars.

What Microsoft is doing here is nothing new to the gaming industry.

So we can agree that "the gaming industry" is rotten in general. If you're going to keep releasing DLCs then just call the editions properly. Yes, it's possible, example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1465360/SnowRunner/ - they did Year 1 Pass, Year 1 Edition etc. Not misleading people into thinking that it will comprise every expansion and dlc. Some games did an early mistake of selling a "Gold" edition (ETS2, Civ5) but later adding more DLCs. But at least they renamed the packages and when they (Civ5) released Ultimate Edition, it contained everything, unlike FH4 "Ultimate" Edition. Words have meaning and no one will start rewriting dictionaries because corpos decided to mislead people using these words.

If people buy premium editions without doing research nowadays,

... then it means they are perfectly normal people who expect the other side of the transaction to behave decently.

You can literally scroll down on the main page of the game and check the image that compares versions, it tells you there that car packs are not included in any edition of the game. This image is not the one from launch, because it reveals the expansion DLCs. The expansions are always a secret for forza games. This image was added to steam when they introduced car packs most likely. The previous game had the same situation.

Look, i know this sucks but this is 100% on you making a mistake. I've done it before as well. So learn from this and apply it to future purchases. I even buy the same game more than once at times, thinking i do not have it, but i do, so i am like "FFS, not this sh*t again". I could avoid this by simply checking my library on steam, see if the game is there, i do this at times, but sometimes i don't and buy second copies of games i already have. I've messed bundles as well, rebuying games i had from "pick & choose" bundles from fanatical, or rebought a bundle on HB/fanatical.

Yes things could be worded out better on their end. This reminds me of one moment i had with this MMO game... where i spin a daily free spin on a MTX event, lo and behold i landed on the rarest item on the event with a 6x multiplier (7 being max), so the odds of landing on that were like astronomically low. I claimed my prize and guess what, i got 1 item only, not 6 of them. The company behind the game sneakily altered the rewards description for some events so that multipliers do not work on big prizes anymore, without communicating the community about these changes. What do you think this caused? Lots of people started spending money in hopes to land on big prizes through MTX, some of them did, but in the end, the multiplier meant nothing on the rarest drop from the event. There was a warning about this from the company but hidden deep within the information tab of the event with tiny letters. This is one of those cases the company does it on purpose to screw over the player. These games usually offer free attempts at MTX and i managed to land big, but i got scammed literally, i did not pay anything but lots of people bought currency to spend on MTX spins and got scammed this way. The company in question was already in a position that the community was questioning every decision being made, the poor communication and the sadistic scams they were implementing, some of which they tried to announce via feedback surveys, to which it backfired at them. The multiplier factor is big in this case, imagine getting a rare cosmetic with a very low drop rate 6 times but being rewarded 1 instead. The other 5 could have been sold to other players for big profits ingame. In this case in specific, who do you think is to blame? Me? The company? Or both?

You mean the barely legible (on mobile anyway) purple-on-purple small print below the table clearly showing "car pass" as a part of deluxe and premium editions? Wow, yeah, I've never read it before, it's 100% on me, you win. ;-)

PS. I would have bought the premium edition anyway, because I only wanted the map expansions and 100% achievement eligibility.

I guess it should drop to -80% before delisting like FH4, but... with FH4 I bough it at -80%, however I didn't manage to get the last two or three achievements that required active online events (festival playlist or some such), so I'm pretty bummed. At the same time I loved the game, spending over 200h in it, so I reckoned it won't hurt to buy FH5 a bit earlier even if I need to spend slightly more.

Forza games have a license for 4 years post release, they will get massively discounted when the 4 year period is up. FH5 will hit 4 years later this year, but i do not expect them to delist the game just yet.

FH4 was a massive success and they extended the license to 6 years if i remember correctly. FH5 is most likely getting an extension as well. Considering we did not see any forza related announcements on the xbox game showcase, it is safe to assume that FH5 is going to stick around for +2 years just like FH4. This means the license extension is going to push the game towards end of 2027 as the deadline.

Forza motorsport games is the same thing, also 4 years. FM was release in 2023, so the deadline is also 2027.

So if you want to get them 80% off, you are going to wait until Q4 2027 to get that deal.

There is a small issue with this though, these games, during their active months while being listed in storefronts, they run events, which are part of the experience. These events reward cosmetics, money and cars (sometimes event/rare cars), which will be "locked away" if you do not play the game during the active times. Essentially it's like a live service game with FOMO applied to rewards. I do not think they make everything accessible, if they made everything accessible when the game gets delisted, it removes rarity of certain vehicles. Lots of people still play the old games and mess around with the auction house. FH games have the tendency to last much longer in terms of online activity than FM games, this also means that online services get shut down earlier in FM games, like online play, auction house, custom paints and tunes uploaded by players.

59,48€ for both Premium editions is appealing... I'll have to think it over the next couple of days as it's still a big purchase

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

For me the decision was easy: first is what I wrote above, and second is that despite both premium editions costing 99.99 euro, FM is 25% more expensive than FH5 in PLN price, which is quite ridiculous. However for you the price is "fair", so the decision boils down to whether you think you'll enjoy a racing game minus free roaming etc. Because visually it's undeniably stunning and probably driving feels great as well.

Permalink

I think I would enjoy a racing game a bit closer to a simulator like Motorsport aims to be. The issue I'm seeing in your thread is that many DLCs are not included and it may be best to wait for an Ultimate edition. Adding to that the fact that I haven't finished FH4 yet, I probably will save the 60€ for now.

Completely unfair that Motorsport costs more than Horizon 5 in Poland :(

I'm not so sure there will ever be an ultimate edition. FH4 at the time of unlisting had 8 DLCs that were not a part of any package and consequently I ended up missing them as well:
Forza Horizon 4: Hot Wheels™ Legends Car Pack
Forza Horizon 4 Open Top Car Pack
Forza Horizon 4 Japanese Heroes Car Pack
Forza Horizon 4: British Sports Car Car Pack
Forza Horizon 4: Any Terrain Car Pack
Forza Horizon 4: High Performance Car Pack
Forza Horizon 4: Icons Car Pack
Forza Horizon 4: Treasure Map

BTW, what I bought was ironically Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition ;-)

There is no ultimate edition that includes all dlc for FH5. They usually make an edition that includes the first 2 years of content (car pass + 2 expansions). If you want to get all the car packs that are sold separately, then your best bet is to buy FH5 when they want to remove the game from storefronts. This is the best price you will find on all content. Do keep in mind that forza games are considered live service, specially the horizon ones. Joining late, means you will always miss out on something, in this case, they have weekly events with rewards associated (cosmetics, cars, money, horns...). I am fairly certain some of these rewards are going to be locked away when the game ceases to have more weekly events. This usually occurs when the next FH game drops. FM games follow a similar pattern, i don't know about this last one, but FM7 used the same formula to some extent.

FH4 did have an ultimate edition, they renamed it this time around and i believe the reason for them renaming the packages is to future proof from potential problems when they decide to extend the licensing of the game for 2 more years. I believe this is the main reason FH5 does not have an ultimate edition, because of the FH4 2 year extension.

All forza games have taken 4 years to release in general, FH4 had extra shelf life because FH5 took longer to come out. FH5 will also have extra shelf life probably because FH6 was not mentioned anywhere on xbox showcase this month, which means, it will be another 2 years of FH5. Which means 4 years + 2 extra, 6 in total (2021->2027), deadline for FH5 is 2027 Q4, FM is on the same page, this game will most likely have 4 years (2023->2027).

The pricing on FM costing more is due to base price being higher. The premium edition bundles are priced equally, but the base games are priced 5€ apart for my country, so i assume it is the same everywhere, more or less.

FH and FM feel about the same gameplay wise, you might see some differences in the physics of each game, like when you collide with another car on track, on FM it feels heavier but on FH it's more unrealistic. Both games use the same engine usually. FM could be using some additional improvements that FH5 lacks. FM is the one forza game showcasing the new game engine basically.

PS: That's a lot of FMs and FHs!

I forgot about the PlayStation port. In that case I doubt FH5 will get delisted for another 2 years at least.
