So much trouble getting to try this supposedly amazing game...Now it's done downloading, I have passed the captcha and the game is finally running - YAY!

But driving with the keyboard really sucks (or I suck at driving with the keyboard, whatever), so I want to use my Steam controller - only thing that works out of the box seems to be left trigger = right click = middle finger. I guess that's very saying for my experience so far with getting to play :)

So yeah, my question is - is there a way to make it work? I have tried adding both GTA5.exe and PlayGTA5.exe files with "-EpicPortal" [as non-Steam game]. The first one seems to do absolutely nothing while the second one goes to Rockstar Game Launcher and proceeds to complain that it couldn't connect properly to Epic...

EDIT: Solution

  1. Open Steam
  2. Click Games > Add Non-Steam game
  3. Add the EpicGamesLauncher. You will probably need to browse to the EpicGamesLauncher.exe in the Win64 directory (have not tested if the win32 one works)
  4. On your desktop, right-click the game icon and choose properties
  5. Copy the URL field (highlight & press CTRL+C)
  6. in Steam, right-click the EpicGamesLauncher and choose Properies
  7. click SET LAUNCH OPTIONS...
  8. Pasts the URL you copied in step 5 and click OK
  9. Rename the link to the name of the game
  10. (optional) click CHOOSE ICON and browse to the actual game exe to get the right icon
  11. click Close

Now I just need to get the controller configured :)

Have you allready tried to add this game to steam and run it from there?

While that might just work, what you are suggesting is add a game to steam, so that it can launch it via epic launcher, so that it can launch it via rockstar launcher :D

Yeah I did, but I didn't do it right - had to add the Epic launcher and not the game exe :)

Hope steam will block all integrations with epicfail store soon.
They're doing nothing, but destroying PC gaming again. Tim noted they leaved PC because of piracy and console was future of gaming, but after 10 years he returned back, if PCs suck so much, why don't put your storefront on the PS5 instead? where 70/30 is standart and even launcher charges a monthly usage fee to play online?
Or instead of making exclusives to your trash launcher, why not improve it a little bit? Indie stores at day one has much more function than Epic after 2 years, no achievemnts for gaming platform and even no forum, so people have to use steam forums instead xD they don't even have shopping cart, groups, controller/vr support or any extra feature, and launcher is down or has different issues almost every day. that's how your 88/12 works for customers...
But he stated many times he hates PC, so who cares? not surprised his entire business model is all about exclusivity, like consoles.

I haven't noticed many Epic fanboys; it is usually the Epic haters that are loud and annoying :p

Absolutely agree with you. Except maybe for the first statement about blocking Epic. I think it would be more professional and mature for Valve to keep a neutral stance on this instead of joining in on Sweeney's childish games.

And do you remember how Tim was ranting when Microsoft introduced their Store and UWP apps, claiming they'd go all exclusive then?
Well, didn't happen, so now he is doing it himself. XD
What a hypocrite ...

this

always works with steam controller, even if the game you want is not detected, or you are too lazy to find it, you can create a generic profile and the controller will work just fine

When I have problems with a non-steam game, shutting down the steam client tends to fix all the gamepad issues for me.

Step 1- Uninstall Epic
Step 2- Buy GTA V on steam
Step 3- Enjoy.

For a bit I thought that was the only solution, but luckily it isn't :)

Hi @Gainja.
What type of controller configurations you have done?
My controller seams to be working as a keyboard input. The joystick works like arrows.

I'm having varying results to get the controller to work every time though; I think maybe it requires to be run in big picture mode, but I haven't been able to confirm 100 %

I have only changed the buttons under the controller (to caps lock for slow motion driving).

It seams that I could get the controller to work, but I need to change the game key binding, instead of the steam one. I steam binding just won't make any effect on the game. It will give me some work, but will be ok in the end, I think.
