The season of Advent is the time when the Christian Church typically prepares for the birth of Jesus, playing a significant role in the liturgical practices of many "High Churches" (Roman rite, orthodox Lutheran, and some forms of Anglicanism to name a few) as a period of atonement, contrition, and celebration. I grew up in a church that had some level of Advent ceremony, with candles being lit and some passages from the Advent story being read, but nothing super significant, and I kind of regret that now as I'm looking back. Anyway, that's not why you all are here.

In the spirit of Advent, I'm going to clear out my blacklist and give everyone a chance again. I encourage anyone who is interested to do likewise; I've become much more discerning in my use of whitelist/blacklist and I'm sure I have quite a few arbitrary entries on each, so a round of forgiveness is in order.

Do you have any interesting Advent traditions? If so, let me know!

mmm... traditions... let me see... I guess the most important / famous one is to lit candles tonight (Dec. 7) ... besides that, doing the nine-day reunions (not sure of the English word) where food is shared after doing some small tradition of reading a couple passages and singing a couple Christmas songs....

"Simbang Gabi" in my country is 9 day series of devotional, early morning (4-5am) masses starting from the 16th ending on the 24th of December.

Lifted from wikipedia:

The Simbáng Gabi originated in the early days of Spanish rule over the Philippines as a practical compromise for farmers, who began work before sunrise to avoid the noonday heat out in the fields. Priests began to say Mass in the early mornings instead of the evening novenas more common in the rest of the Hispanic world. This cherished Christmas custom eventually became a distinct feature of Philippine culture and became a symbol of sharing.

I don't have any Advent tradition in my family nor where I live. Used to be a big deal when I was going to Catholic school but that was a while ago.
