If you get these spams in really short time in every your giveaway, try report them for being bots. Even if support close it, it will let mark for them on account, so one day it may help to take care of rule breakers.

I think support already overwhelmed with various tickets, giving them another pile of them to worry about it is not solution, imo. You always can raise level of GAs to filter some bots.

I call for that since over a year...

Let's say the, active, mods support it.
And it still not happen...

That was the reason why a bunch of my group and i started to hunt the autojoiners.
The punishments for the autojoining is a joke but often they act with multiaccounts too, so sometimes/often we catch them with that and bring a perma suspension. After a lot of invested time...

But anyway not a full replacement for a purge that cg could do.

You can always do the good old - "if you comment you will be blacklisted" giveaway descriptions and you will catch alot of them out. Although there are more bot accounts than you can blacklist.

I found some "Thanks!" messages are indeed genuine people. When I add "Please do not spam Thanks comments" I get less of them. Unless, of course, bots have added a hash of regexps that will prevent them from spam with "Thanks" messages...

mainly hate this since it drowns out actual comments on other GA's i have running, so i have to scroll past pages of "thanks" spam to make sure i don't have any comments from ppl having issues with keys or have any other questions regarding grp GA's etc.

Obscure the 5 digit/letter giveaway link somehow so bots don't grab it. Make a https://www.jigidi.com/ etc, etc.

Public giveaways are in my experience a disappointment and a mistake to create.

I personally only care if a person thanks me if they win.
It's not like I'm doing something extraordinary by hosting GAs so I don't expect regular thanks. While of course that's cool some decide to show gratitude, it gets old fast.... Especially with these autojoiners...

I actually have never understood the idea behind creating a bot for spamming thanks massages. Saying thank you gives you no advantage and it can only annoy the person on the other end... its a lose lose

thankyou script is connected with autojoiner as far as i understand this and an autojoiner online 24/7 gives you a clear advantage and that way you can even have multiple accounts running, which doesn't consume any of your time

Only a small part use the integrated thanks script.

So we get, because of the thanks spam, only aware of the tip of the iceberg.

But they can act complete stupid without that much happen to them.
It takes a lot of time to catch them with 100% evidences.
They can win months before someone have the chance to catch them with evidences and someone must be willing to sacrifice a lot of time to catch them. When catched they get, in the worst case (lets say this depends much on the mod and his mood), a 2 days suspension.

And if someone get a perma suspension then a new account is fast made.... and can win again for months before catched (if ever).

there are short duration GAs, there are GAs ending, when you sleep, autojoiners catch all these GAs with low entries and better chances, you don't have to check multiple times per day and save a lot of time, you can even set up multiple accounts with no time consumption at all, i'm sorry if you don't see any advantage there

AND you still have 400p for multiple accounts = 1 acc =100$ min (3 and 1/3 "AAA" game) is 100% cheaper to just buy the game
P.S. and after playing so many games I 100% know what game I want (and wait 3-12month before buying)In last 12 month ONLY 2 games is worth 100% price on premiere: Psyhonauts 2 and Elder Ring

A couple of years ago I was called a bot because I would copy-paste the same comment in every giveaway I entered.
The message was "thank you for the chance to win a game from my wishlist" cause I only enter games from my wishlist.
Thing is that I could post the same comment 2 or 3 times in about 10 seconds.
My point is that not everybody who posts the same comment is a bot

When I first joined (not too long ago), I thought saying thanks was the proper thing to do (but I didn't because I'm lazy, and always felt guilty for it). Had I not been around the forums I wouldn't have known that posting thanks is frowned upon. I suppose people who don't hang around the forums or don't know English exist, too, but that doesn't mean autojoiners are not a problem.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

At that time were the thanks script integrated in the autojoiner not so spread/often used (if it existed at that time -i don't know when it got connected-), so the people weren't annoyed because they don't got spammed from the same accounts, in each GA, with the same message.

And a autojoiner with activated thanks script would have other stats as you....
The entries don't fit, the wins don't fit, the comments not fit.
At least not for one that is always running. Your stats would maximum count for one year of a autojoiner.

Oh, and the GAs that you made don't fit for the autojoiner people too. They don't give something or nearly only free stuff, in 99% of the cases.

Maybe you don't know that but this is the 2nd version of the site, it started in 2015. (SG v2 if you want to learn more about it)

Lot of small things changed since the previous version, iirc there was no notifications for the messages and you had to check yourself your ga and topics in the forum to see new messages and if someone replied to you.
So people used to say thank you in the comments in every ga (being polite never hurt right?)
But now, when people (aka bots) do that you're flooded with these "thanks" messages.

Couple months after the launch of SGv2 I've been afk for a little bit more than 1 year, and when I came back here, I naturally started to say "thanks" again in every ga.
I quickly learned to stop it as people was blacklisting me because of that.

This. 10 years ago we were encouraging people to post comments, engage in discussion, get to know people in the general community/private groups... back then, posting without writing a comment would make you considered a bot.

Then the notifications got created and the situation changed 180 degress.

did the same when i started here, i thought it would be nice to thank the giveaway creator for the chance of winning a game. one of them was so kind and gave me world of goo when he saw that i commented 1000 giveaways in a month and asked me if i was a bot :D

if someone enters multiple giveaways and thanks me on one of them i dont mind, if someone spams it under every giveaway i may block them if it gets annoying

It's somewhat annoying, and could be due to an autojoin app.

Some people blacklist for not commenting, some blacklist for commenting.

Someone is nice enough to thank you and you're unhappy because they dare to do so in their own language ?
Unless there is an issue with a giveaway and they don't try to communicate in a language you both can understand, I don't see the issue, at worst it will teach you how to be polite in another language.

You know, english is not my native language, but when I'm using english site I find it polite to use english language as well. Unless I know that the other person is my countryman and we both understand each other. So when someone writes e.g. "hvala puno" I have to use translator to understand what that person wants to say. Isn't it annoying?

Also, I'm not unhappy, I'm a bit annoyed. That's different.

Neither is mine, but if someone is thoughtful enough to thank you, you need to take what they give you. The language matters far less than being polite.

The obvious autojoiners because they have the tahnks script activated.
It give much more that don't activate the thanks script, from the first 50 that join you have 20 autojoiners.

You can post me the links to the first 2 on steam in my comments. Or add me on steam as friend.
The first could be different ones, the second is unknown for me and the third is one that i hunt lately (like ~30 other ones).

Best thing against them is to set the minimum level to 4 or higher.
That reduce the spam extremely, nearly to zero, but of course you will still have a few autojoiners, without activated thanks script, in your Giveaways.

One of the reasons why fewer and fewer do, public, GAs.

Old one from me:

A bit funny to see this coming from you after you won one of my GAs and didn't thank afterwards. Yes those autojoiners are annoying, but I'd rather a thanks (even if from an autojoiner who doesn't end up winning) than no thanks from a winner of one of my GAs.

I'm pretty sure Ultimasta is not the only one who blacklist people if they redeem without a word so it's probably best to thank the gifter when you redeem the key. You can go back later and comment when you played the game of course, if you want to add something to it, that's always nice to know the game is being played.

I know I try to avoid spamming people when I enter a GA unless I have something relevant (or more personal) to say than "ty" but I also make a point of saying thanks right after I click received. Not because I'm afraid to be blacklisted but because it makes sense I guess

I usually hesitate about going back to leave yet another comment after finishing a game, specially because it's usually months to years later so it feels awkward, so most often that not I decide against it and just keep quiet.
So I'm genuinely curious to know, do you do that? I mean, commenting after playing the won game.

I have before but mostly when I know the gifter from discussions here or through Steam.
I don't think it's awkward. It really depends on the people and on the game.
That's why I don't do it with someone I don't know, unless they ask for feedback

This was all literally in like a span of hours, not days or anything, so it's not even like I was given any time. I had already put another comment after I won, but before the key was available, but it didn't involve a 'thanks' so wasn't sufficient I guess. 🤷‍♀️

I usually make level 2+ public giveaways, and that almost completely eliminates this kind of spam. Though it seems you do somewhat the same, so... idk, it doesn't seem to be universally working.

And it sucks for sure, I like actual interaction with people here, even if it's just them thanking for a game because they love the genre, or they have a little something to tell. It's cool when you get a peek of the person behind the username.

I'm kinda new here and haven't done many giveaways so they don't bother me -for now-, setting the level to 2/3/4 helps.

Let alone thanking for the giveaway, I even hesitate sometimes to thank as a winner because they might think that it's another bot/spam message with a regular "thanks". So I try to be specific like "marked as received, thanks so much" or "received the game, thanks!".

I have seen this phenomenon often.
BOT users often violate other rules of SG as well.
In the description the winners are investigated by "SGTools".
I think it would be quieter to describe it that way.

I feel that the "SGTools" string is a magic charm.🧙👀

I would like to see "Thank you" in "World Language" once in a while.
If you feel so inclined, you could put "Please write your thank you in your native language" in the description to give a sense of the range of users of this site.
That kind of playfulness would be more fun to use.🤔😂

And the "native language" thing will just get all USA and UK people screwed.
So I think changing it to "write thank you in world language other than english or get blacklisted" will be more appropriate.
