I haven't played 4 yet, but I absolutely loved the first Valkyria Chronicles.

I'd best describe it (the first Valkyria Chronicles) as XCOM-like. Hold on, I'll dig up my description of it from an old giveaway:
"Well, they are pretty similar. Kinda... Both are squad-based turn-based strategies. In both you have some form of management between missions. In both your sniper can miss a shot that should be friggin' impossible to miss. And in both if you don't use proper tactics and just charge the enemy blindly your soldiers will get shredded faster than strawberries in a blender with the constant fear of character perma-death being completely negated by the fact that you can just load your last save.
Though I played Valkyria Chronicles right after XCOM: Enemy Within so it might just be me. ^_^' "

So, yeah, if you played and liked XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and wouldn't mind similar-ish gameplay in a more fantasy WW2-ish setting, then there's a good chance you'd like Valkyria Chronicles too. :)
