Im looking for some good anime movies. And yeah, by movies I mean movies only, no series. But happens that I dont know much about the topic so if someone who knows a lot about anime can recommend me some movies, that would be awesome

I watched:

  • Cowboy Bebop Knockin' on Heavens Door
  • Akira (which is now my favorite cyberpunk movie)
  • Princess Mononoke (overrated if you ask me, but it is great)
  • Spirited Away

Btw Im going to watch the rest of the movies from Studio Ghibli.

Also here is a poll, I know the forum of SG loves polls :)

I don't like anime, but there are a few movies that I've watched and enjoyed a lot, like Paprika, Perfect Blue, Children Who Chase Lost Voices and some of the Studio Ghibli movies

Everything Ghost in the Shell (but watch the original, not the horrible 2.0 version, and don't watch solid state society, before the 2 series).
Also watch everything by Makoto Shinkai. So much eye candy!

I 2nd both Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (aka Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo).
I remember watching Summer Wars (both times) during Toonami's December Month of Movies.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was also another very good movie too.

Hmm... Maybe Steins;Gate? The series is terrific, the movie not so much, but it's still pretty good. However, it'll be quite a bit confusing if you haven't watched the series first (which I highly recommend... Damn, it was so good).

Yeah, there is! I think there's a special episode or something else as well, but for some reason I could never find it anywhere...
I heard they are working on a sequel(?) to Steins;Gate, too. Hype! :D

The OVA doesn't really have much plot to watch. It's funny but that's it. Nothing like the original or the movie.

Still cool to watxh tho.

I suggest "Eve no Jikan". It's a slightly futuristic movie about artificial intelligence. It's very nice and not well known.

Aye. Pretty much everything by Hayao Miyazaki is good. I'd recommend Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro, also.

I love Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki's works. The best in the industry if you ask me. (No particular order)

  • The Wind Rises
  • When Marnie Was Here
  • Howls Moving Castle
  • My Neighbor Totoro

There's a short anime with extremely realistic art, Garden of Words 2013.

I know you said no series, but if you change your mind: (No particular order)

  • Death Note
  • Monster
  • Sword Art Online 1 - 2
  • Tokyo Ghoul 1 - 2
  • Beck Mongolian Chop Squad (this, specially if you like music!)

Movies don't mentioned previously in this thread and you should watch:

  • Wolf children (I cried)
    - Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (I cried) xxxIt's a TV seriesxxxx
  • Tekkonkinkreet (I cried)
  • Tokyo Godfathers (I cried)
  • Maybe Berserk movies. I love that character.

Be careful with Satoshi Kon, because you will not understand nothing the first time you see some of his movies (that is good for me at least, but you have to watch his movies carefully). But Tokyo Godfathers is the exception.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was great indeed, but it's a TV series so it's not what the op is looking for :p I do agree with the rest though.

The movies are great, but the series are where it's at.

The Animatrix is classified as Anime and is a must see if you're a Matrix fan. (I suspect you've already seen it)
The Macross series of movies don't seem to be mentioned so I'll add that. (Again, I think TV series are actually where Anime excel.)
